Re: Potential MVP return?
As much as I loved MVP 2005 and the Series as a whole (all the way back to Triple Play Baseball) there's a statement in the video that worries me. The statement that bothered me most is when EA was asked if MLB The Show being cross platform would pose an issue and they said (Paraphrasing) that it wouldn't be a problem.
When EA says things like that, I get nervous. Especially with their history of throwing large piles of cash for exclusivity (see Amerrican Football.) Competition is good for sports games and the lack thereof (either because of exclusivity eg: Football or the lack of will of a competitor to create a game eg: EA in Basketball and 2k in Hockey will cause the same vacuum and lack of innovation. -
Re: Potential MVP return?
I loved MVP 05 and even bought NCAA 07 back in the day but I don't have any faith in EA to deliver a true top notch sports game anymore.
The news mostly makes me nervous that they'll buy the exclusive MLB license.
I know that seems unlikely given how successful the Show is and how long they've been the only game in town....
But MLB just signed an exclusive deal with Fanatics to make baseball cards, ending a 70 year relationship with Topps because Fanatics showed up with a bigger pile of money.
I'd like there to be legit competition again but the state of sports business as whole gives me concern. Everything is moving toward exclusive licenses it seems.

Re: Potential MVP return?
EA bought the Super Mega Baseball studio (Metalhead) for a reason. They're not going to release an unlicensed game, so it seems very likely we'll be getting an MLB licensed Super Mega Baseball game in the next 1-2 years.
Metalhead are geniuses:
-EA stops making MVP
-Metalhead makes a game with very similar mechanics to MVP. Succeeds.
-EA buys MetalheadComment

It will be absolutely nuts if there is no Topps baseball of any kind. It also kills off Panini baseball.Comment

Re: Potential MVP return?
I would love EA to return. As good as MLB the show is it's gotten stale for me. I miss the days of having multiple options for sports games before exclusive licensing deals killed all that. EA has a bad reputation but if they can put out a decent game I don't care. I just hope it's soon and not in a couple years.Comment

Re: Potential MVP return?
According to this article, EA Vancouver is developing the game. So we should be getting two baseball games published by EA.

Re: Potential MVP return?
Oh man I’m getting excited. MVP was such a great game and to me the gameplay was gold. In my opinion it played better than MLB the show. The franchise mode was super deep.

Re: Potential MVP return?
At the point when EA makes statements like that, I get anxious. Particularly with their set of experiences of tossing huge heaps of money for selectiveness (see Amerrican Football.) Competition is great for sporting events and the deficiency in that department (either as a result of restrictiveness eg: Football or the absence of will of a contender to make a game eg: EA in Basketball and 2k in Hockey will cause a similar vacuum and absence of advancement.Comment

Re: Potential MVP return?
As much as I loved MVP baseball, EA Sports of nearly 20 years ago is not the same as EA Sports today. Any game they might develop will just as likely be some e-sports driven scripted mess like FIFA and Madden.Comment

Re: Potential MVP return?
The Show is the best baseball game in history, at least as far as gameplay is concerned.
What they are failing to do is capturing the rich history of the sport.
I will support whomever creates a baseball game with customization options like 2k has provided. Retro rosters, custom leagues, team customization, ect.
If that is EA/MVP, great.
.. I don't know how they'd get a card game off the ground considering how successful Diamond Dynasty already is.You want free speech?

Re: Potential MVP return?
I don't like how modern EA Sports games play today. I don't like their menus/UI, and the gameplay always feels kinda bad or stiff. The modes always feel weak and half assed.Comment
