    Batter's Eye Slider

For those of you who use this, how do you approach it? I've never used it, but I may need to start in order to jump start my hitting.

So by default it appears to be just a little black circle in the middle of the zone. Do you have to move it to get it to light up or something? And what exactly does increasing the batter's eye slider do? What settings seem most realistic seem to give you a decent number of tips per game but not too many?

Any help here would be appreciated.

    Re: Batter's Eye Slider

The Batters Eye slider refers to how often you are tipped about a pitch the CPU is about to throw.

You occasionally get tipped with a message exclaiming "breaking ball" or "fastball" and depending on where the ball is generally going 1 more borders light up.

You know... like when all 4 borders of the strike zone light up and it says "fastball" you know you are going to get a fastball down the middle of the plate. Or maybe when only 1 border lights up to signify it will be on the outter part of the zone or possibly a ball.

The batter eye meter affects how often you get that tip. (As does the batters 'batter eye' skill rating.)

Yes, you should move it around in the zone, but it depends on where in the zone you think the pitch is going to be. I also believe the eye is bigger for hitter's with high Batter Eye ratings than it is for those with lower Batter Eye ratings.

You also sometimes will actually see the exact pitch being thrown cause it will FLASH on the screen IE: Fastball, Curveball, Change Up.

It works a little different when you have the Strike Zone enabled. It works as kpkpkp posted

Good tip for stealing use the batters eye. As soon as it dissapears you know its safe to run. That is what i mainly use the batters eye for.

Okay, so I know where the batter's eye slider is at in the regular difficulty sliders section--is there another place in the menus where I have to adjust the frequency with which I get tips, or no?

I don't want to overdo it, but it's clear to me by now that I'm WAY better at pitching than hitting, so I'm gonna see if this feature helps.

I see that Joe, Blazzen, and Mkharsh play with the eye off. Do you guys have opinions about reasonable settings for those who might want to try it out but don't want to go totally arcade?

I wouldn't go over 50. I use it all the time with classic and I don't think it helps me get any better hits. The main thing I notice is it helps me judge strike and balls more and like I said earlier it a good thing to use if you want to time your steals better.

OK. I'll give it a go, maybe around 40 or so. Where I really have trouble is the occasional close ball/strike, and the hanging breaking ball, which I inevitably swing ahead of and miss a perfect pitch to drive. If I could just get a clue on one of those a game, I'd be thrilled lol.

                Re: Batter's Eye Slider

I think I'm doing something wrong. I turned batter's eye on in the controller setup screen and then I turned the batter's eye frequency slider to 40 I think and proceeded to play a game with the Cardinals. I did not receive a single tip on a pitch type or location in the 3-4 innings I played.

Is there an extra step to this or something?

It is not nearly as useful as the hitter's eye (the blue outline that tells you pitch type and general location). You won't see it very often. You have to literally have the little black spot on the exact spot that the pitch will be. I'm not sure it is worth all of the trouble, to be honest.

In 2K8, it was a yellow cursor. Every batter had a different size cursor based on their rating. If a pitch was in a zone that you touched the cursor with, you got the tipoff. Pujols had one that was large enough to cover 4-6 depending on where you placed it.

But it would also shrink as you fell behind in the count. I really liked the system. But this hitter's eye just feels more right to me. I have it set at 50, myself. And I don't use the batters eye (the black dot activated in the controller settings).

If you want to see some improvement, I would try using the LS to aim hits. like most, I rarely use it. But if you the blue bar telling you it will be outside, and you press the LS that direction, you should get stronger hits. Same way with inside pitches.

I would not go up and own, though. I pretty much take all low pitches early in the count. And upper cuts really do result in pop-ups. They are not even reliable to hit a flyball to bring in a runner from third. But going the other way on a hit and run can be effective, even if you are pulling an outside pitch or the other way around.

Wait, where is the hitter's eye feature? So there are two ways of getting tips on pitches? Can you break this down for me?

Don't quote me on which is hitter's and which is batter's. But if you go to controller options, you can turn one of them off or on. This is the black dot system.

If you go to the difficulty sliders under USER batting, there is a setting for th other one. This is the blue outline that lest you know f the pitch will be inside, outside, up, low, or down the middle. If it is in the middle, it will be a strike, the rest might or might not be a strike, But the tipoff focuses your eyes to the right zone, and it ends to be easier to read balls and strikes.

For this method to work, you do have to have the strike zone turned on for the batter in the presentation settings. No strikezone, no tips. But you can use the black dot method without the strikezone.

Wow am I a dummy! I play with the strike zone off, so I was never seeing the batter's eye tips lol. Sheesh. I'm going to have to go try this now. I just like playing without the aesthetic distraction of the zone.

I agree about the aesthetic. But I think it is worth it. I do the same with the pitching strike zone to keep the InsideEdge stuff up.

The main reason I don't use the black dot is that you get a tip so infrequently, that when I do, I overreact and usually swing and miss. It has the exact opposite effect on me that it should.

FWIW, it is a fairly unobtrusive strike zone.

And what is the deal with the different colored balls being pitched , Red, White, Blue and Yellow. I'm assuming green is a fastball, but the manual doesn't explain _hit about it.
