When you guys start you chise, how long will your season be? I've always felt compelled to do 162, but I never could finish the year. This year, I think I'll do either 40 or 80. What about you?

Re: Season Length
I've actually played full 162 game seasons before (the last was MVP), but I was in college(or fresh out) and had a helluva lot more free time than I do now. Now, I'll still set up a 162 game season and play maybe one game a series, which cuts it down to about 50+ game or so. I may play important inter-divisional games or games againt the other top teams.
The one good thing about doing it this way is that I still get to use all of my pitchers pretty much equally. Also, it allows you to play multiple seasons. Also, it can get boring when you play the same team 4 games in a row.
The one reason I can't play the shortened seasons is that I need to have full year stats at the end of the season...To me stat's based on 40 or 80 games just feel incomplete. I understand why others do it, it's just not for me. Seeing a player lead the league with 24 HR's just doesn't feel right to me.Last edited by Trevytrev11; 02-25-2008, 03:21 PM. -

I might have to start doing that this year. I generally plow through as many games as I can without simming any, but I've only finished a 162-game season once (in MVP 2005). It would be cool to watch the team develop over the course of a couple of seasons.I've actually played full 162 game seasons before (the last was MVP), but I was in college(or fresh out) and had a helluva lot more free time than I do now. Re: Season Length
I do the same as others...162 game season, but only play one game per series and/or important (to me) games. I did a full 162 game season in the first year of The Show on PSP, but that's because I was able to play it during lunch consistently.
Man I miss my PSP.Comment

Same as a lot of you guys, I typically play one game per series... no way in hell would I have time to do multiple seasons of 162 games, haha.Comment

Re: Season Length
It's really the one bad part of baseball video games. In football games, if you played two games a day, you can get through a season (post season and offseason included) in under two weeks. Basketball takes more of an effot, but is still only half of the MLB season.
Obviously, the one bad part about having to sim, is the stat's aren't yours and you lose control. You may be able to make Pujols a .350 hitter and the game makes him a .310 hitter, so you end up with a .340 hitter or something. You may win 70% of the games you play, but the computer may play .500 ball and instead of winning a division you may miss the playoffs.
Also, I know it's just a video game and everything, but there is a sense of accomplishment when your controlled player breaks a record or something...not the same when your only controlling him 25 -50 % of the time.Comment

Re: Season Length
I've only made it through a whole season in one baseball game, MVP 05, and that was by working with a sim system that someone poster here on the boards. It was simple. You play one game in a three game series for out of division opponents, and 2 out of 3 games of division opponents. I played the whole season without it ever really feeling overwhelming and the stats worked out ok.Comment

I always start a 162 game season, because it has the real schedule and everything, and I like to try and play every game. Never finished the whole thing. Maybe this year...Comment

I don't like to simulate to the end either. I want to play every game.Comment

What about the addition of playable minor leagues? Does that affect anyone's plans? In MVP, I started off playing every game at every level. I quickly gave up on that and only played the MLB games.Of course, if Dawson gets hot, and

Re: Season Length
Re: Season Length
I've always used this formula for baseball games. I classify each series as one of the three:
Regular (non-divisional or unimportant)
Divisional (obviously divisonal)
Huge or Rivalry (Late season series Aug-Sept when both clubs are in playoff races, or big rivalry games e.g. Cubs v. Cards/WhiteSox)
Regular Series- I only play 1 game of the series rather it be a 3 game or 4 game series. If there happens to be an ace pitching matchup in the series, I MAY play that as well.
Divisional - 2 games. Usually play the 1st game. If I win, I'll sim the second and play the rubber game. If I lose the first game, I'll usually play the second game and sim the third, win or loss. If its a 4 game series, I'll either play games 1 and 3 or games 2 and 4.
Huge/Rivalry - All games
It usually works out pretty well.Comment
