***Official MLB 2K9 Retail Version Impressions***

I usually play on the quick play-fast play feature or whatever to by pass animations and walk ups.

I wish though there was text displayed on the screen as to who is up to bat and his in game stats just somehwere on the screen. I know you have the announcers but other than that I have to go by the scoreboard at times to catch some quick stats.

Unless there is a way to dispay stats on screen automatically. (not d-pad)

Well I played the game for 2 weeks (I rented it sadly i'm also gonna buy it) and there's some good to this game but BOY the bad things are REALLLY bad.

1. I find the fielding (outfielders) incredibly hard to pull off. At least once a game i'll run for the ball and suddenly the fielder stops or heads off in another direction! "sigh"

2. As others have mentioned the A.I. hitting is WAAAY too aggressive.

3. There doesn't seem to be all that much difference between pinpoint and breakpoint pitching which is confusing to me. I played the '09 season and my pitchers were getting killed! I said screw it after a while and simmed to the 2010 season and my pitchers are doing a little better. Oh and also for the 2nd straight year Roy Halladay under my control sucks butt.


Despite these near game killers I find the game fun to play. Maybe i'm just a massochist?

I really have no idea what all the complaining is about. This game functions in the same general way as NBA 2K9, NHL 09, and NCAA 08. Now, as to what I mean by "the same general way," I'll have to leave that out, because elsewhere I have been accused of ... well, let's just say I disagree with about 95% of posters around here on most subjects concerning next-gen sports games. (I can't resist at least a hint: I think most, and I mean most, of the "problems" and "glitches" people bitch about, concerning this and other sports games, are user-caused.)

Point is, I think this game is exactly what 2K8 should have been. If I have any complaints at all, it is that my games tend to take a very long time. Longer at bats of 7+ pitches can drag on for what seems like (and maybe is) five minutes, so to truly put together a complete game (220+ pitches) takes some real patience. But, really, other than that, MLB 2K9 is, like I said, everything 2K8 should have been. If you were a fan of 2K7, there is nothing to fear here.

That's a totally valid opinion, but you can't be dismissive of the serious glitches this game has, they ARE there. And this is coming from a person who did buy the game and enjoys it to some degree. But I like the game as much for what it's supposed to do than for what it actually does. And there's no way you could have played this game for more than a day and not encountered either the unacknowledged flyball or failing to tag the bag problems--those happen to me virtually every time I play a game, and they are often decisive.

I'd recommend not even renting it. Really, it feels like such a waste of time. You'll be sitting there playing, experiencing bug after bug, and thinking you could be spending your valuable gaming time on something much better (there's not much worse, sports-wise).

Wait for the second patch (if in fact they even put one out) and the feedback.

I don't even know where to begin.

I like the base of what is there. But as for the actual, finished game. Yikes.

I'm highly critical of baseball gaming and there is so much this game needs to do to improve. Hopefully the dev. team is focused and willing to do what needs to be done to make this game worthwhile.

You can tell they didn't have time to do the game their way. Still a lot of crap left over from Kush's disaster of a game.

The potential is there... but that doesn't do anyone any good who is interested in playing this game NOW...

2k7 was more than decent after it's what 2nd patch or something like that? So hopefully this will be. 2k8 was not any better after the patch and 2k8 felt like it was juggled code. 2k9 feels like 2k7 and 2k8 combined but with a more solid framerate(thankfully)but who knows what a patch could do/ the diting issue is hurting good ol tomba tho. i'd love to do a edit via NBA 2k9 for this puppy and see where it goes but it's a mish mosh of reliability.

Major player edits/sliders can't "save" this game, IMHO.

That's something we had to do years ago. It shouldn't be a solution anymore. Either way, this game's issues are far beyond player ratings...

Ton of areas left unfinished. You can tell they ran out of time. It actually hurts the game because all the of stuff left over from Kush hold the game back.
