Is ANYONE having any success stealing??

This is crazy. I was struggling to steal with the fastest runnners. I bumped my baserunning speed up to 75....then to 80....then to 85. I finally bumped it up to 100, and am still failing miserably.

I even went in and created a player with 98 speed and my steal success is still less than 12%.

    Is anyone having any success??

before i deleted my franchise, i had 6 stolen bases with eric byrnes in 16 games. just make sure you take a three step lead(with the third step coming when you hold down the trigger). also, dont steal on the first pitch because the pitcher is trying to get ahead so it will most likely be a fastball. go when you are behind in the count because the pitcher will throw offspeed stuff and breaking pitches. also, try to steal on pitchers that have slow deliveries only. certain pitchers, like dice-k and danny haren are slow to the plate and are easy to steal against.

I am 2 of 8 with the Mets Reyes is 2-4 rest of team 0-4. I haven't thrown out a single runner yet myself allowing 8 SB's in 8 attempts
      Gaming hard since 1988

I have won like 25 Super Bowls in Madden so I am kinda a big deal.

when i go to throw out runners, i hold the throw all the way into the red. i throw out about 75 percent of runners.

Throwing out runners hasn't been a problem for me. It's just been on the offensive side of the ball.

panthers_freak - Thanks for the advice. I do believe I'm running mostly on the first pitch. But I do know that I'm running on not only fastballs.

I'll give it some more work.

Its hard to steal but it's also the way you slide as well. try to slide to the back of 2nd base or to the right...

It's nice that it's not automatic for speedsters like Reyes and Ellsbury...but it's also nice that a bad throw can mean success for your run of the mill guys.

To the OP, its nothing you are doing wrong. This is another aspect of the game that doesn't work right. There is no way to do it differently then I have been stealing, no better way, and Wily Taveras (one of the speediest runners in the game) has been thrown out 8 out of 10 times since I've had the game.

i haven't had the best results as i am about 40/60 on safe/out and i steal with faster guys but i do notice that my guys are called out alot even when they beat the throw and tag so that kind of hurts

I've stolen 5 or 6 bases with Ellsbury, so it can be done.

Out of curiosity, what are your pitch speed settings? I wonder if the ball is reaching the catcher too fast, if that makes sense.

Re: Is ANYONE having any success stealing??

I've got about a 50/50 success rate, give or take. For me, I carefully watch the pitcher's motion from the stretch. A few pitchers have weird little twists of their ankles or something which makes them EASY to steal on (with fast guys). I forget who off the top of my head, but my Orioles faced a pitcher in the first month of the season and I must've stole 5 or 6 bases in the game, including third (he had this little twitch he did about 1 full second before pitching out of the stretch; the throws--even to third--weren't even close).

But if I don't spot anything in the pitcher's move I don't bother trying to steal (although I do put on the hit and run a lot which can be quite sucessful if you make contact to the cover side).

I have some success. Success totally depends on some key factors... guessing the pitch type (breaking balls take longer to reach the catcher).... pitch delivery time (some pitchers take a bit longer if they have a long wind-up).... and the arm strength of the catcher... how much of a lead off I can get by with... Obviously, the baserunner's speed is important too! I weigh all those factors before sending the guy.

I don't try to get every guy that reaches first base to attempt a steal.

Seriously? do you really need to go into every thread and rant?
I've read in another thread that you're getting the show,so why bother with your pointless rants here anymore...other than to troll.

This aspect DOES work right, there are several (as already have been mentioned) factors that contibute to your success.
I've been able to steal with Furcal,Pierre as well as Martin....so yes I would say you're doing something wrong.
People are for reviews if it backs their argument, and against them when they don't.

That's not the point. The point is you shouldn't have to be facing Hideo Nomo to steal a base with Reyes, Tavaras, or Ichiro. I have also been thrown out way too often and I'm using Ichiro. Yes, even if I time it perfectly Ichiro still manages to get thrown out in a bang bang play.

Anyways...OP...It can be done, you just have to be patient. When I get Rollins on I get way too aggressives sometimes, and force the steal...more often than not its been because I took off to 2nd too late, but there has been a few times where I was clearly safe but was called out.

Ironically I've had more success stealing w/ Shane Victornio and Jayson Werth than I have w/ Rollins.

If you've got baserunner speed at default than you'll never get steals. You'll need to up that slider to at least 60/65.
