stealing

It becomes impossible on legend difficulty.
The computer never messes up a throw, you are never allowed to get 4 steps from first, how do you steal on legend? I've only done it twice with carl crawford and rollins, but when i try with people even faster than them, I can't get the bag.

Any tips?

Speak for yourself. I have tried to steal 14 times on Pro and haven't had a successful steal yet. I'm about to completely give up trying to steal a base.

Ok, how do you steal on All star? I get a 3 step lead, wait for a good breaking ball count and go and only am succesfull about 25% of the time . Im playing on a 360 with default all star settings.

The preset slider settings suck. Just turn up baserunner speed and adjust a few other sliders.

Stealing in this game is really my only major gripe. I have Taveras w/ the Reds, his speed is 99, he should be able to steal at will and I get thrown out most of the time. It's gottem to the point where I don't even attempt a steal because I don't want to get thrown out.

I have pitch speed set at 90, when it was set at 65 I could steel easier, but I like the faster pitching. Also, I take 3 steps from the bag (holding the left trigger on the 3rd step).

Should I be trying 4 steps? It really would be nice if we could all try to find out how to fix this. Stealing bases is a huge part of the game.

Tips anyone??

I also am playing All-Star level. Forget about upping the speed or lowering the pickoff success because it will knock you out of card contention, but if you dont care about that stuff go for it!

I have not been picked up taking 4 steps, just tossed back over to first. OCCASIONALLY, you can get away with a four step lead and then go for it when you see him start the pitch. My problem is that the pitcher is normally pitching a fastball and the catcher is rarely off target, but it does happen on occasion and you can get a steal. Definitely going to be tough to get to 40 though.

jose reyes is 0-4 that's with huge leads...like he's spinning his wheels in first gear

Found a post on another string mentioning that it is all about not going on the first pitch (which are basically fastballs), but more so being careful against whom you attempt to steal against. For example...choose pitchers that have exagerated motions...he gave Felix Hernandez as an example. Dice-K would be another, but I know he is much faster in the stretch....

Anyways, during the season I would study the opposition, and note the guys that take longer to deliver the ball and it might help the steals totals.

I also have reyes, but my two steals were only because the throw was off-track. Would be nice if pushing a certain direction on the stick indicated what type of slide we wanted (MVP 2005). Oh well.

^^^and this is what my problem is. A great concept, but poorly implemented.

Guys like Hanley, Reyes, Crawford, etc, should not need an extended motion, huge lead and perfect jump to steal. The strategy/timing should matter, but not be the only factor. Ratings don't seem to effect the jump, which is a big issue.

As I said, it's a good concept, but badly in need of serious tweaking (must be the theme VC was going for this year...lol).

As for tips...not going on the first pitch does help. Also, timing is key. Going on first movement (or better yet, trying to anticipate it) makes it better also.

When i try to steal the computer seems to know im going and picks me off everytime. Any advice on this?

You can pick how you want to slide. Left stick up will slide head first, up left or right will slide to left or right of the bag. Left stick down will slide feet first. Down left or right will slide to left or right of the bag. Go to base running practice and try it out. I still can't steal a base in a game thought. Funny, in the demo, I can steal and it seems about right but in the full console game I can't steal for anything.

After the patch they made it much more difficult to steal.

Also sometimes I will go into replay and see how the tag was applied and how my player made it in. If you slide feet first sometimes your player will beat the tag but then an animation glitch happens and the player takes his foot off the bag. This could possibly result in the game reading the coding wrong or something crazy and calling him out.

From now on I slide in head first and I have a little better success rate.
