extra base hits? are they possible?

I seem to be barely scoring any runs in this game. I average around 3 a game yet I am averaging around 15 hits a game. I've tweaked my sliders, used other guys sliders from here, yet all I seem to do is just hit 15 singles a game. I rarely hit homeruns, but I'm fine with that cause my home run totals are semi-realistic at this point. The problem is I have 4 or 5 guys batting over 400 with barely any RBI's due to just hitting singles. The only time I get doubles is when its off the wall, I don't think I have ever hit a liner in the gap or down the line.

I'm 11-9 right now in my franchise with 6 one run loses cause I can't score, yet I hit in the teens every game. It is beginning to get frustrating. I just want to average around 6-12 hits per game, and 4 to 5 runs as opposed to the 15-18 hits per game and 2-3 runs I've been getting. Please recommend some sliders or something, and I used the main ones on these forums, and same results so not those. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I get a fairly good balance of hitting with these settings:

      Batting Success: 50
      Batting Contact: 40
      Batting Power: 90

Usually get a few doubles per game, and a homer or triple here and there, plus a fair amount of singles.

You may need to cut down on the CPU fielder speed, so they don't cut off so many balls in the gap.

What are you using for hitting? If Swing Stick you need to play with the Left Stick more and learn how to go with the pitch or pull it down the lines, once you learn the left stick more you will hit more gaps down the lines and home runs.

This is true. I set the AI fielder speed to 45 and I get some good gap hits.

i guess i'll lower the field speed, but i have tried a lot of sliders and seem to get the same results, and some sliders are way too easy, so i don't know...i'll keep trying

                  my two cents...

For the first several weeks I tried out downloaded slider sets, but was having the same issues of lack of power, and variety of hits.

I bumped into a thread about choosing a difficulty like All-Star and simply lowing the pitching efficiency of the CPU (I believe it is strike zone tendency and strike zone efficiency both to zero. For one, you still qualify to earn cards, which alone makes this game more fun for me to play.

Secondly, as your timing gets better as you progress, you can always raise the lower your power and contact and the and raise the all important batting AI efficiency or whatever it is called. As long as you are not lowering below pro level settings, you will still earn cards, while making the game more difficult as you get better.

I see home runs, triples, doubles, singles, strikeouts...the whole gammut. Even more pleasing though is that even though I feel some of my numbers are inflated, I have checked league leaders and don't lead in any category, but am hanging with the leaders.

Stealing bases and drawing walks is another story...but I dont want my games to last an hour anyways, so I hack away quite a bit!

Re: extra base hits? are they possible?

Post patch the settings for all star difficulty are a lot of fun. I have a Giants franchise and made a bunch of trades to stack my team and i still lose the right amount of games. I'm not even in first place. I average 6-8 hits in a game with some blowouts and other games being really close pitchers' duels. It's all about personal preference and finding the fun factor for you.

EDIT: forgot about extra base hits, they are there too. You have to try to take chances on balls hit to the gaps with your faster players. Sometimes I don't realize how fast my guys are running until i try to stretch what looks like a single into a double. Triples are a little bit harder you have to be in a larger park and most of the time hit it either in the gap between center and right or down the line in right to have a shot.

Re: extra base hits? are they possible?

I had the same problems as you until my past two games.

While playing, watch the replay of your swings. I found I was slightly late on pretty much every pitch. I made good enough contact to get singles, but little else.

I started swinging slightly earlier during the past two games, and my offense came alive. I hit for the cycle with Pedroia this morning and exploded for 12 runs against the Rangers (my previous high run total, through 20+ games, was 7 runs).

I'd would love if 2K10 adds a hitting feedback/swing PIP similar to MVP baseball for on the fly swing analysis.

Re: extra base hits? are they possible?

hey bro, i had the sameeeeeeee exact problem for so long. but i got out of it by highering batting success.

dude, put it as HIGHH as you want. like up to 80. put it up so you can start hitting homeruns and scoring runs.

who cares if you blowout an opponent like with 20 runs.

at least you have a starting ground where you now know you can score and hit homeruns, and then progressively work you way down.

i have done the same. I try to average under 10 hits a game, and 4 or 5 runs a game, with one or two homeruns.

you need to keep playing with batting success and AI pitcher success (that will tone down the ridiculous amount of hits)

you should be set my man.

I play on legend settings and can't hit homers to save my life even though I get every other kind of hit I've raised my power settings to 65 anything higher then that disables the player cards, I use the L stick on every swing and it doesn't seem to make any difference, I still don't hit any homers, Id like to draw some walks as well but the CPU never walks any one in video games LOL... Can someone who plays on legend please help LOL

Lower inside edge and pitcher handness sliders to 50 in user batting. That will help you a lot.

Using your classic hitting sliders, I'm seeing enough extra base hits.
