So what makes a game good?

    Hi everybody,

I have been around this forum since the release of 2K9 and I am amazed at the wide spectrum of opinions of the game. Some love it, some hate it. I want to know what people are looking for.

Some say there are too many hits, some say to few. Too many HR's, too few. Too many strikeouts, not enough strikeouts. Pitching too easy, pitching too hard.

Are people truly content with "realistic" numbers that mirror totals in the MLB, or deep down do we want to lead the league in hr's, rbi's, be the MVP, win the Cy Young? Unlock the cards and get the achievements?

I understand the issues with the glitches and all, but I question those that truly want to win 60, lose 60, and then let the other 42 play out.

So defend your position. Are you happy with a true sim, or do you want to win it all, set new records, unlock all achievements, etc?

I only ask that a game come out as bug/glitch free as possible. That's why 2K9 is frustrating me so much.

As far as stats go, I prefer a sim game to arcade...that's why 2K releases The Bigs, so fans of either can buy the game that fits their style.

You should still be able to set records, etc. in a sim game. It should just take a player/team the right length of time to reach milestones and set records.

Dominant players in the MLB should be the same in the game. Veterans should see their attributes fall off after time. Prospects should have a huge upside, but could also fail to reach their potential if not utilized correctly. Just like in real life.

A sim game shouldn't mean that it is impossible to be successful. The game should just emulate the baseball as close to real life as possible.

Honestly, I'd much rather lose in extra innings than win 13-0. I love to win as much as the next guy, but a competitive, realistic game beats a blow out any day.

I just want a game that I get invested in, over the course of a 104 game season I expect to get beat by a lot, win by a lot, and have a bunch of close hard fought games. I expect injuries and want to EARN my chance at the playoffs. I enjoy this game to an extent and just wish it delivered more for me. I still play the game but, just I expect more next year.
        Gaming hard since 1988

I have won like 25 Super Bowls in Madden so I am kinda a big deal.

I like the hitting in this game, but I'm not a big fan of the pitching. Once you nail the gestures, it becomes way too easy to hit your spots. I think the accuracy of the pitches should be based more on the pitcher's control ratings and not based so heavily on the gestures. I wish it had a pitching meter option like The Show, or at least a better version of the classic pitching (from 2K7).

Precisely, otherwise winning each game (and/or finding tricks to winning) takes the fun out of it.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

I can put up with an arcade, non-sim sports game -- NHL 09 for example -- as long as the controls, animations, player models, presentation, quality control, etc are all top notch -- NHL 09 for example. 2K's MLB series pretty much fails in all of the above catagories.

NHL 09? U on drugs? One of the best realistic sports sims in years, wow. The Ai is amazing, as is everything else really.

Ping-pong passing is hardly sim. Watch some playoff highlights on NHL.com, then pop in NHL 09 and watch how the CPU moves and passes. The CPU gameplay in NHL 09 in no way, shape or form represents real-life NHL action.

Ping pong passing? Don't happen in my copy, and the AI how id adjusts on the fly, cycles the puck is amazing. For a GAME, it is the closest thing to real life action. NO GAME mirrors real life action enws flash, but for a game NHL 09 is the closest to sima s you will get, especially how the AI acts realsitically. Come on, anyone can say look how they move compared to real life and say it is sim, coem on, it is a game at the end of the day,a s far as sports game go, NHL 09 is as close to sim as you can get currently, and I played hockey for 15 years.

Well, when I first played hockey, Jacques Plante was Montreal's goaltender. So I guess that makes me more correct.
