      Hey, bw,
I'm a PS2 guy, too and will probably get both baseball games this year. But we gotta face reality. We own dead systems and there just isn't much info about the PS2 version. Finding info is pretty tough. Hopefully 2K for PS2 will be solid and give us alot of the options that next/current gen has.

Yeah, my guess is this (along w/ many other upgrades) will not be included again this year for the ps2 version - especially since all the reviews have a (ps3) in parenthesis after the new additions to the game. Oh well, looks like another year of editing my 2k5 to get the rosters as close as possible (pretty much just a roster update year after year for the ps2 anyways). Hard to believe they offered 30 team user control for 2k5, but not since...

Dying yes - dead no. I see more ps2's for sale at my local walmart than ps3's - suppose it has anything to do with the price tag? My point is why make a game year after year if all you are doing is updating the rosters? I understand there are size restrictions involving ps2 games, etc - but they were able to implement this to the verison 5 years ago, so why not today? If you're going to put out a version for ps2, why not make it the very best it can be?

            bw,
I agree with your comment. But I understand that from a business standpoint, you want to focus more on the next/current gen than a system that has had its day.
I don't read much other than OS forums about gaming. From what I see here NOBODY plays PS2 anymore. Is the PS2 still a big player?
Back to your original topic, I really hope 2K gives us PS2 guys a pretty good offering. I'm going to try it out and have some hope that it's a little more than a roster update. I'm cautiously optimistic for some reason.

I hope you're right! If you end up getting both games, please let me know if either has the features I'm looking for, as this will determine which one I would buy...Thanks!

Re: 30 team user control in ps2?

                Hi, bw,
I've been playing around with 2K8 all weekend. My biggest gripe is that the cpu only gets runs on homers. So I edited my pitchers home run ratings and some hitters HR ratings and I'll see how it goes. The sliders either don't work the way I want or I just haven't figured it out yet. I am looking forward to 2K10. Even if it is a roster update, I'm getting the game to the point where I have a game that plays pretty good and if I need to edit players, that's not a big deal. And it's only 20 bucks, so not a great loss if it is beat. Not trying to promote or bash, but the other game for PS2 is a bit more solid. But it takes me an hour and a half to get through a game and on PS2, there is no in game save. 2K fits my schedule a little better. I only have a few hours a week to play, so I need to be quick and if I can save in game, then it lets me get a few innings in here and there. Not the most "sim" game, but acceptable for my needs without having to spend three hundred dollars on a new system for one or two games.
I plan on picking up the game Tuesday or Wednesday. I'll give a few opinions. Not expecting greatness, but hopefully a decent playable baseball game.
                Sarge.

Hey, bw and anyone else interested,
Quick impressions of the PS2 version: Very much a roster update. AI is a bit tighter, I think. It's a bit more challenging, but not by much. No, bw, you cannot control all 30 teams. I've only gotten in about 15 innnigs so far (all on All Star, no slider adjustments)and only gave up one homer. CPU gets extra base hits. I spent alot of time the past few weeks with 2K8. This is a lot like it. Will write more over the weekend when I can get a few more games in.
If you have any questions or want me to look for something, let me know.

Thanks guys for the update. Let me know once you get the show on ps2 if it has 30 team user control. Does either game have HR Derby for ps2?

Yes, MLB 2K10 for the ps2 does have the home run derby. They also give you several options of how to play it: Traditional, Team, and I think the 3rd way is called showdown or something like that.

So I take it you can still 'control' 4 teams like the previous versions. But is there anything in there that allows you to manually make CPU team changes like lineups, transactions, etc? My goal is to keep rosters as real as possible throughout a season and it's frustrating come August when all the trades happen (in actual MLB) and you cannot control the other 26 teams rosters.

                              bw,
Roster control is the same as previous versions. I think you could work around it by trading guys to your team and then trading them along. Basically three team trades with your team always being in the middle. I haven't really tried that yet, but I think that's how to do it. But you still can't control the non controlled teams lineups, etc. Bigtime downer.
Ok, I got in a game last night and this morning. Here are some random thoughts:
I like it so far. I played on Legend on did not adjust sliders. Lost both games, 5-0 and 5-2. CPU still needs to take a few pitches, but not bad. My pitch counts were about 90 for 9 innings. Hit variety is not bad. Even without tweaking fielder speed, a few gappers got in. CPU has terrible baserunning logic. Maybe a slider could help. Man on third, bleeder up the middle, runner stays put. They do take extra bases appropriately. I have seen injuries. CPU pitch count is unknown - I swing at everything. I need to work the count better. Have seen no errors yet. In a nutshell, my opinion hasn't changed. It's a decent game. Not as realistic as other games, but it's a good game. Again, for my purposes, it's working so far.
I'll play again tonight and write more then. If you have anything else you want answered, please ask!
