Andre Either just threw out Lastings Milledge on what should've been a single to right field.

Re: Official MLB 2K10 Impressions (360/PS3)

Spent a little time with the game tonight. Not much new to add, except that I was bummed that the 2K servers were down. So I couldn't try out the online play.

I really hate the menu system. It does not feel very intuitive.

I created a first baseman in the Cardinals farm system. So I don't plan on making a big league impact any time soon. It wasn't bad, but I did not get to take throws from the infield. All of my defensive plays were ground balls to me. I messed up a couple of double plays because I can't figure out how to throw to a base.

I hate, hate, hate that there is absolutely no way to look at my opponent;s bench during a game. there is also no way to tell if a player in my opponent's line-up is L/R/S hitter until they come up to bat. This was probably my biggest gripe from last year's game, and it is worse now, as there were work arounds in last year's game.

But gameplay is really, really nice. both pitching and hitting feel spot on, and most importantly, fun to do. Other than the rocket arms, I think fielding also feels pretty tight. I will be curious what is done about the arm strength.

I did not take time to edit ratings for arm strength. Will have to wait until I have more time.

Re: Official MLB 2K10 Impressions (360/PS3)

A couple things that have bugged me in the past don't appear to be rectified. There's no way to see what side of the plate people on the other team bat from in the middle of a game, which sort of screws up pitching matchups and warming up lefty specialists if you don't know when there's lefties coming up exactly.

The menu system with "2K Nav" is probably the worst designed thing I've ever seen, and yet they've been sticking to it lately.

When you pinch hit for a pitcher, it brings the pinch hitter to the mound before asking you if you want a replacement for them. Wouldn't it make more sense to ask you about a replacement before your backup second baseman or whatever walks out to the mound?

There's a couple other, but I can't remember them.

But the hitting and pitching is much improved, I just hope that same amount of work goes into fielding and baserunning next year. (Amongst other things, cycling through the base runners instead of a direct button for each of them is pretty unacceptable.)

Edit:

... I swear I didn't see that when I posted about the same thing.

Edit2:

And then of course there's the fact that the out of the box rosters suck. I mean, I know they'll be improved closer to Opening Day, but as an example since I'm a Cardinals fan... anyone who thinks that Schumaker won't be leadoff hitter for most of the year is crazy, but they have Rasmus leading off, and Schumaker 2, when Rasmus should probably be 6, and Schumaker will definitely be 1.

Sure, a lot of that's guesswork at this point, but there's probably 4 spots that are mostly a given right now for the Cardinals, and that's Schumaker 1, Pujols 3, Holliday 4, Ludwick 5. They've only got 3 of the 4 correct.

One thing that I have noticed is big joe is totaly right on using pro to start as a base for customizing sliders. When you go to allstar the ai hitters swing at everything but on pro they are much better. Turning down the fielders run speed did help get more extra base hits from what I seen so far at least.

Re: Official MLB 2K10 Impressions (360/PS3)

I'm enjoying the game a lot so far. The first thing I did was create a shortstop named Roscoe Shepard (also my Mass Effect character name) and messed around with that for a while. I enjoyed this mode a lot on The Show a couple of years ago, and this one seems very similar to it. I can see myself playing this a lot.

I've only played one game, and I didn't do too well. I put it on the highest difficulty and lost 1-0. I struck out more times than I can remember and only managed one hit. I'll probably play another game on this setting and then work my way down based on the results.

Embedding doesn't work, but this was the final pitch of the game that I lost lol.

Re: Official MLB 2K10 Impressions (360/PS3)

gonna start with my cons just to get it out of my system

be back w/ pros later

this is for my ppl with OCD

disappointed they got rid of the few good things about 2k8

- no right stick influence for throw accuracy when fielding (in 2k8 if you held the right stick towards whatever base you were throwing to, but didnt keep the stick completely straight you wouldnt make a perfect, on-target throw)

perfect throws everytime as long as you're in the green.. doesnt feel like the meter affects throwing power at all either. i can see this getting old quick

- even when hurry up mode is turned off, it's still not all the way off. there's a lot of weird ppl like me that like to see the post-pitch batter/pitcher animations/mannerisms play out completely and the game cuts them all short even when hurry up mode is off. seriously aggravating

- customization isn't as deep as 2k8.. a lot of little things. one thing that really bothers me is they removed the ability to edit jersey bagginess. Fat guys like CC and Prince and guys like Manny that wear big, baggy jerseys all have the same jersey type as everyone else. it's minor yes, but it adds to the realism and everyone ends up looking the same

you'll really notice it when you play with Manny

- no manual fielding

- lack of batting stances.. havent checked pitcher windups yet, but i'd like to see 2k baseball get to as many signature animations as 2k basketball. too many players bat the same and with a lack of sig animations the game can get stale quick

- cant view pitchers warming up in the pen

- cant select the cpu pitcher when playing quick game

- little minor touches of detail missing;
e.g. baserunners holding their batting gloves on the basepaths were removed

forgot a few things, but for the most part i'm enjoying playing the game so far and it feels like 2k has a good foundation here. the prospects of 2k11 look intriguing
