I just finished a 9 inning pitching duel an online ranked game. I threw Carpenter against Santana and the Mets. First thing I want to point out is that the game was pretty lag free. There were about 4 or five pitches that had some massive slowdown. But they were still playable, and the rest was pitch perfect.
It was a pitching duel, because neither of us could hit anything. But there was time to take is the ball was out of the strike zone. I was early and late on pitches, but when you have a guy mixing speeds, that is what should happen. Hitting is just kind of hard.
But we both started to get the bat on the ball, and then had some hits drop. Although my first hit did not drop until Pujols dropped one over the CF wall in the seventh, which broke up the perfect game.
Later, I got a hit, bunted the man over with Carp. Schumacher drove him in with a single to center. While the throws still look too strong, I was able to score on the play like I should have, and held on for a 2-0 win.
The late inning fatigue really wears on the pitchers. For the last couple innings, I kept hanging curve balls because I could not get the gesture down in time. The fast ball was easier, but I was overthrowing it a lot. It just wasn't as dangerous as a floating curve ball.
Oh, and we don't seem to have a homer problem, at all.
Once I get hitting down, this game is really going to be a blast online.
