Is it possible to throw someone out at the plate?

Is it possible to throw someone out at the plate? The throw always gets there but the tag is late or isnt called out, I cant believe they didnt fix this, am I missing something?

Yes I've had several plays at the plate, maybe 1 every 5 games. It doesn't happen too often though, much like real baseball. I think you have to do tags manually, by clicking down the Right Stick.

Re: Is it possible to throw someone out at the plate?

I've seen a few outs at the plate in My Player mode. However, the ball has to beat the runner there by a good stretch, as I've seen the catcher stand upright and hold the ball as a runner slides safely through his legs.

I would guess that once a baserunner crosses a certain point, the sliding animation kicks in and he scores no matter what; when the ball arrives before that point, it triggers a play-at-the-plate animation that could go several ways.

I've seen this happen both in my favor (with my controlled player as well as AI control in My Player) and against me.

I think the catcher has to block the plate. I believe there's a command for that.

Yeah, I read somewhere on the 360 its RT or RB....

Like if you get the throw to your catcher in time, and the CPU's runner is coming at you, you have to hit and hold RT or RB...

I wanna say hit RT, since RT is the "action button."

          Anyone confirm this?

Hold RB and it will work most of the time, but there will still be times the catcher does something dumb like go over and step on home plate instead of swiping a tag

Hmm, RB not RT. Got it.

Ill give it a try next time my throw makes it to my catcher in time as a CPU runner is coming at me.

That's all well and good if I'm controlling the catcher, but in My Player mode, I'm playing the LF. Makes me mad when I rifle a ball to the plate to nail the runner only to have the Catcher stand there watching paint dry while the go-ahead run scores.

Apparently, according to Ronnie over @ 2k this is going to be addressed in the next patch. I played him today during the game with developers. For those wondering, our game went 20 innings, Ronnie had 30 k's with Carpenter who pitched all 20 but I ended up beating him in the top of the 20th with a 3 run Manny Ramirez triple.

I agree, I was just telling him how to manually apply the tag. The cpu is just dumb when it comes to tags, and when I score or advance because they don't know how to tag it feels cheap. Hope the Segal poster is right about it being addressed.

duke, please don't take my comments as critical of your previous post. I was just venting about how the game AI is so dumb sometimes it really hurts gameplay, even in My Player mode.

Wow, someone hasn't been playing VIDEO GAMES for very long.

The play was fine. No, it wasn't real life.

I wonder how many people will get that reference.
