NL/AL greats or old-time players

Does anyone know how you can play with the old-time players. Do you have to unlock the some cards or what?

I'm just creating them myself and sticking them on various teams. I've also come across a bunch more names of alltime great players who are in the announcement data base, but who don't appear on either alltime team. Let me know if you want a list.

yes I would. Also would like to put them in Franchise mode if possible?

Here's the list of names I've come across so far. It includes the names of the alltime players in 2K11 as well. When you create these players, they can either be added to a team of your choosing, or into the FA pool, after which they're available for franchise play, yes. Another way is to simply edit some of the 40-50 rated generic scrubs already in the game.
