He will not be ready for ST. If he plays at all next year I'd be surprised. Ruben is far too optimistic about this injury. I say it's a good thing, he needs a good extended break from baseball.
Likely to be either Jim Thome at 1st or Mayberry will be taking over. Excited about both options, if Thome can play decent defense then he will be almost as good as having howard back (maybe even better, he hits for a higher avg.) and Mayberry is a personal favorite after his breakout year this past season. He's like a taller, slower, more powerful version of victorino: lots of extra-base hits, decent avg. and still good power to occasionally go yard. Fun fact: in fewer at-bats, Mayberry had more RBIs than Utley.What would Doc do?Comment

I imagine so. They have a DL. I think last year Santana shipped healthy and then they put him on the DL on the first Living Roster. Howard will probably get the same treatment.Comment

My guess is that he starts the season injured. As for how 2K12 will handle it, it could be as follows:
- MLB Today will be updated with live rosters, so he will be injured.
- Franchise will start with him on the DL for a specified time. (wasn't there an option last year for default vs updated rosters when starting a franchise?)
- Exhibition (play now) will have him healthy and on the roster.
That would be how I would do it anyway.Comment
