Question on power hitting

Using classic controls.

Should I press up on the analog stick to influence a fly ball or not? Wondering because I haven't used the analog stick at all and have just been letting pitch location and swing timing determine where the ball goes, but it seems I'm pounding everything into the ground and the fly balls I do hit go about 250 feet and are pop ups more or less.

Contact at 30 and power at 65 FWIW.

Re: Question on power hitting

Thats what I was wondering but I just kept playing and i bumped the contact up to 40 and my power is at 60 and now I hit Hr's just fine. Don't touch the Left stick while swinging and you will be fine, most people don't.

Supposedly that does influence ball trajectory using classic controls as well, yes. Easy to check though, just create a practice pitcher that tosses slow fastballs only, then test it out.

Re: Question on power hitting

When you use power swing be warned your timing needs to be quite good. If it's off you'll see a lot of towering pop ups to the middle IF or week grounders to the second basemen.

What I like to do is an in and out method now with almost all swings. I don't do up or down with the left analog stick and I only try to either pull or go away with the ball. I think that sacrifices a lot of HRs, but I get more solid hits that way.

There's no power swing option with classic hitting pete, only analog.

Re: Question on power hitting

The only time I push up on the stick is when the pitch is high. I just swing in the direction of the pitch and Hit decent HR's. Sometimes I go 4-6 games with no HR, then others I have 2 hr's in 2 consecutive games. I ended with 34 hr's in my first year in the majors just by hitting normal.

If I got annoyed that I havn't hit one in a few games, I would hit up on the joystick and would end up just popping it up everytime. I would do that a few times in a row, then have to tell myself, "stop doing that, they will come when the come". I never, ever use it now, unless, like I said, the pitch is high. Then if you hit up, and time it well, you will crack it out!
