    Hope I wont regret this.

So last night I was browsing around and I came across the MLB2K12 ad with Justin Verlander and well it got me a little curious about the game. So I ended up purchasing a copy at Amazon for the PS3. I already own The Show and I enjoy playing it, I'm not expecting a Show killer, just looking to play a different baseball game for a bit.

Hopefully I won't be disappointed, what do you guys think? Is there anyone here who plays both games?

I also play the Show. I think 2k12 while not a great game is a fun alternate game to play on occasion.

I love 2k12, although I've never had any of The Show games. You should enjoy it.

Re: Hope I wont regret this.

I've been a PS3 owner for about 4 years now, and I've bought both games at some point each year (crazy, I know), and I always seem to end up liking the 2K games more.

I guess as my gaming time drops more and more each year, I find that the simplistic approach that 2K brings to the controls helps a casual gamer like myself get involved in the action quicker.

I have had MLB 2K12 since release date, and have loved every minute of it. Its not as "pretty" as The Show is, but the gameplay is fun, and keeps you coming back for more.

Awesome, that's all I needed to hear, like I said, just looking for something different, lack of The Show caliber graphics does not bother me. The pitching looks interesting and I can't wait to try it out.

I don't think you will regret it. The Show is the total package. Looks good, good gameplay, lots of features and options. But, after some rough years, 2k has stepped it up and is pretty good. Not as pretty, but just a hair more fun for me. I have the Show on PS3 and Vita. 2K for PC and 360. All I need to do is pick my platform.

I have each game, and enjoy them both. The commentary on 2k is still amazing and The Show's graphics can't be beat. I think you will like them both.

I have, and enjoy both. I'm not going to lie, I think The Show 12 is one of the finest sports games ever made. Its an amazing title. However, for many of the reasons already posted in this thread, I enjoy 2k12 as well.

Its a fun game. Its ugly compared to the show. I do prefer the overall presentation and commentary in 2k12 over The Show.

I don't think you will be disappointed at all.

Re: Hope I wont regret this.

Pretty much sums it up for me too.

I have both MLB 12 The Show and MLB2k11 for PS3 and MLB2k12 for Xbox. I like both The Show and MLB2k. There are definitely some great features on MLB2k12 which I hope The Show eventually incorporates. The pitching on MLB2k, once you figure it out, is great and a lot of times I just simulate my team's batting so I can go back to pitching. No reason you can't play both games and enjoy both. I'm betting that you won't regret your purchase if you give MLB2k a chance.

My biggest complaints about MLB2k are that the graphics aren't as good and the player likenesses (batting stances, pitching motions) are no where near as accurate as The Show.

If you edit the **** out of this game it's pretty good. I mean right down to the pitches and equipment. Then use one of the slider sets you can find here and it's a pretty good game you can have a lot of fun with. Defence takes a bit to get used to, but once you do you can make it look pretty smooth.

Re: Hope I wont regret this.

Thanks guys, I appreciate all the responses, I finally had the chance to play it this evening on the PS3 and well... I absolutely do NOT regret purchasing this game. It's definitely not in the same level as The Show (ESPECIALLY, in the graphics department) but this game is fun in its own way.

I started out by doing all the drills and then played a full 9 inning game on the MLB today feature, although it wasn't really that accurate considering Justin Verlander isn't pitching till Sundays game, but who cares, beat the White Sox 4-1 (playing on default Pro, haven't messed with the sliders yet), almost pitched a perfect game with Verlander right until the 3rd batter in the 7th inning hit a double.

I love the pitching which is awesome since I found the pitching in The Show somewhat lacking regardless of which mode I used, now I understand why some of you guys sim the batting portion, speaking of batting, it feels a little weird to me, but its not horrible, the fielding feels a little sluggish, the graphics aren't really that bad even though I am spoiled from the graphicsmon The Show, Verlander is the only member of the Tigers who looks like himself, but those are only minor complaints.

Well it looks like I'll be alternating between The Show and 2K during this offseason.

Awesome -- glad you're enjoying it. Too many people feel like you have to choose one game over another or one console over another.

For what it's worth, given that you like pitching, you can pick up Jamie Moyer as a free agent and put him on a team. I like pitching with him because you have to be really careful with your selection and location.

While I think The Show's graphics and the player likenesses are great and it's a good overall game, it's not perfect -- but there's no perfect baseball game out there. My 7-year old son and I play both MLB2k and MLB The Show and even mix the Japanese Professional Baseball Spirits 10 into the rotation. When we go on vacation, we take our PS2 and alternate between MLB10 and EA's MVP NCAA Baseball 07. Every once in a while, I catch him throwing in MVP 05 in the original Xbox (which, if you have the composite cables to give you 720p video, doesn't look half bad). The point is, I can find something I like that's unique to all of these games so I have fun with all of them.

Re: Hope I wont regret this.

I actually heard about that 'Pro Spirits' Japanese baseball game not too long ago from this message board, I ended up watching a few YouTube clips of the gameplay and it looks pretty sweet, unfortunately as much as I would enjoy trying out that game I don't have the time to actually commit to playing a game that requires translating, baseball games already require a learning curve, a Japanese baseball game would be an even steeper curve for me.

I've always loved the pitching aspect of baseball, one of the reasons I love the Tigers is that they have always had an elite pitching staff, unfortunately when it comes to pitching in baseball games it just seems that there isn't a lot of thought that goes into it, it's pretty much timing and that's it, take every pitching mode in The Show (except for classic) and its just a matter of timing and that's it, sure the pitching in MLB2k12 requires timing as well but at the same time I feel like I have more control on the outcome of the game.

By the way this is the first time I've ever heard of an EA College Baseball game, I was actually thinking the other day about how cool a college baseball game would be, unfortunately I don't think there is any sort of market for a college baseball game...
