Wall climb

Could someone explain to me how climbing the wall works? It seems like you have to time it, since holding down X just starts a throw to third, but every time I try I just seem to trap it against the wall fail to jump at all.

It seems like it depends on the trajectory of the ball. If there is a high apex, I run to the wall and press 'x'. If the trajectory is low, I press 'x' before I hit the destination. This also works for foul balls that play close to the fans.

As far as I can tell, there is no timing to it. I just mash it as I get near the wall.

I very quickly hit the button to switch off auto fielding only for my outfielders. I feel like I get screwed a lot when I try to manually catch things close to the wall. I think 2K overdoes the wall climbs and diving catches...

As far as I can tell, there is no timing to it. I just mash it as I get near the wall.

If you play online, the lag can effect this animation. Often, you have to press 'x' during the run in order for the servers to recognize the input before you arrive at the ball.

I agree. Also, it is annoying when the wall catch icon appears on unplayable balls.
