As much as I would like to believe this team has finally collapsed, I still think they'll be in the mix at the end. The Orioles can't keep up their current pace and it's not like the Red Sox are tearing up the league right now.

I somewhat agree with you but if the Yanks continue to struggle this month then Steinbrenner may force the issue which could cause bigger problems. I don't think the O's will keep up the pace either but it'd be nice if we actually have a 3 way race between the Sox, O's and Jays.

At least it'll provide a different dynamic to the AL East.

Detroit Tigers: 11-12
New York Yankees: 10-15

seriously though, who ever thought the Yankees would ever be ranked 25th out of 30 teams in the MLB?

Personally, I think Torre is torn between going after one more title and absolutely hating managing that team right now. His Steinbrenner threshold was reached a long time ago. I'd bet he longs for managing in a no frills place like Kansas City or Seattle.

Interesting fact from Gammons:

Since 1976 only 6% of the teams that finished April with a .400 - .440 winning percentage have made the playoffs, which is where the Yankees fall.

But lets remember, last year the Yankees went 12-11 in April but 18-8 in May and 19-7 in June.

I'm glad the Yankees are shaking things up. I've always wanted to see Cano as our 2B, but I question the move of Womack to left field

Re: Official New York Yankees Bleacher Creatures Team Thread

I'm really surprised they moved Womack to left, you would think he, being the veteran and all, would get to stay at his preferred position and the rookie would go to the outfield. Matsui is also already shakey out in left so having him in center isn't going to improve the defense. And those are two weak arms out there that baserunners will not think twice about running on.

I wonder how long the Yankees will stay with Giambi before they cut their losses and release him. Such a move would be rediculous given they still owe this guy close to 100 million dollars but if he does nothing but take up a roster spot it almost doesn't make a difference whether they keep him or release him.
