I was just thinking about this..... how come when Mussina is talked about and even facing the Red Sox... no one brings up his near perfect game in 2001 when he was 1 strike away but was brokin up by Carl Everett.

I mean that wouldve made it 3 perfect games in 4 years by Yankee pitchers which would be astounding.

God, Redding sucks ***.

He makes me almost miss Quantrill.

Oh well, hopefully the bats will come alive like last night.

Re: Official New York Yankees Bleacher Creatures Team Thread

Does anyone else feel bad for Cabrera? If I were him I'd be crying in the dugout.

But seriously... how much worse (if he's not better) defensively could Bernie be than Cabrera? At least Bernie can hit to make up for his defense.

Plus.. how come a $200 million roster can't find a 4th outfielder and a long relief man in the bullpen. Darrel May? Tim Redding? Jason Anderson??? If someone told me at the beginning of the year that these guys would be pitching against the Red ox in JUly, I'd have told them they were crazy.

How come less fortunate teams have 4 and 5 outfielders that can play defense and hit decently and have guys cgood enough to spot start but the Yankees dont. It boggles my mind how badly things have gotten.

The #1 sign this team is a mess: we see both Tim Redding and Darrel May in the first 3 innings of a big game against the Red Sox.

In Spring Training, scouts said he was at least 2 years away from the bigs.... but Torre likes his defense and thought he'd be an upgrade over Bernie.... which so far he hasnt been. Lets say that his defense is better than Bernies. I'd rather sacrifice the defense for the bat anyways... especially when this kid isnt ready for the bigs yet.

Scouts say he could become a good defensive outfielder and good contact hitter with decent speed in the near future... but definitly not this soon. He's only 20 for crying out loud.

He's being set up to fail and that "potential" will be destroyed because of it. A few more plays like that for NY and he'll be driven out of town. Baseball is all about confidence. Why not let the guy develop and gain confidence down in the minors?
