Good thing we have Mike Myers.

I don't see Philadelphia moving Abreu. I know Ed Wade is supposedly dumb and all, but I don't see most GM's moving core players who produce. You strive to attain guys like Abreu, you don't just move them for what wouldn't clearly be an upgrade.
If Philly is going to move a big contract/bat it'll be Thome's, not Abreu's. And I don't care how much money Manny makes, their is no hitter that I would take over him. I can understand wanting to move his salary, but he's a player that you KNOW what you will get.

Plus try explaining to your fans (philly fans that is) that you traded away the guy who won the HR derby (also setting the record for a single HR derby round and total contest) and keeping Thome with his albatross contract. AND keeping Howard in the minors as well, along with shipping your best pitcher too.

Whoops.. forgot to add Darrel May, Jason Anderson, and Buddy Groom to that list.

Although these pitchers have no business being in the majors, you have to give credit to the Sox offense tonight... they just keep pounding the ball all over the place. Hopefully it'll be a different story aginst Unit tomorrow.

Re: Official Boston Red Sox 2005 Thread

On 1510 today they said that the Sox may offer Arroyo, Youks, and a minor leaguer to the Florida Marlins for A.J. Burnett. I'm not sure if I like this trade. Arroyo 7-5 with a 4.14 ERA in the AL while Burnett is 5-6 with a 3.64 ERA in the NL. I'm not sure giving away Youkilis and a prospect (probably Shoppach) for an improvement of 0.2-0.3 in ERA (assuming his ERA goes up a bit with a change of leagues).

If they'll take Wade Miller instead of Arroyo then I'm all for it, but if not, I hope the Sox don't offer the deal.

You know, I would'nt be surprised if that deal went through. It would open up 3rd for Hanley to get accustomed to to replace Mueller, and personally I'll take Burnett's stuff of Arroyo's stuff everyday, no matter what the stats say, Soppach, well...no one really cares about him anymore.

Re: Official Boston Red Sox 2005 Thread

I would trade Arroyo, Youk and Shoppach for AJ Burnett in a second. His stuff is flat out dirty and he's been clocked as high as 99 mph in the 9th inning. Even with his health concerns and some underachieving so far, getting a potential future ace for three solid big leaguers who don't play largely in your plans is a bargain...especially at what the Orioles are offering even after taking Daniel Cabrera out of the deal.

With Tek signed up, we all know Shoppach is expendable. Arroyo is getting lit up by left handed hitters, and Youk is a solid position player but doesn't project to be the answer at either corner position with his marginal power even though he's got great plate discipline. I doubt it'd be this easy, but I love this type of deal if it's available to us.
