Tonight's game was "blah." Schilling's splitter officially sucks. I'm interested in seeing how Declarmen does though, perhaps they're showcasing him for a potential trade?! Either way, I hope he has more success than Meredith.

Yes, I am VERY excited about seeing some of our young talent play in the bigs.

And Schil showed flashes of brilliance in the 9th, but then again it mihgta just been the D-Rays sucking. Send him down for a month and a half and build his stamina up, liek I said a bazillion times. He needs to be a starter.

My prediction is that Delcarmen will be up so Schilling can head back to the rotation in a week or so.

I don't think I'm watching the same Schilling as you guys. He was very sharp in the 9th and made 1 bad pitch in the 10th. I've been very encouraged by what I've seen so far because he seems to be improving. His velocity might not be 94 but he's hitting the corners. His Splitter, admittedly, hasn't been great but do you really expect him to come back and be dominant right away? This is the first time he's pitched healthy since last summer, give him some time. He doesn't need to go on the DL, he doesn't need to pitch in the minors. He needs to pitch against major league hitters as often as possible. This team is much better off with a healthy and effective Curt Schilling.

Re: Official Boston Red Sox 2005 Thread

I'm going to go ahead and say it.... Trot Nixon is a bad right fielder. The play last night was obviously a well hit ball, but there's no excuse letting the ball get past you. If he plays that off the wall the run doesn't score. It seems like the effort is there, but he's just not getting to balls and the balls he does get to are bouncing out of his glove. On top of that, he has an average arm at best.

I love Trot's hustle and attitude but it doesn't make up for his lack of range and instincts in the outfield. Maybe he's been hampered by his undisclosed injury but it's just painful to watch him play RF this year.

I agree. I think Schilling looked real sharp last night. Just that bad pitch cost him. I think theres going to be a trade red sox sending out 3 pitchers, getting 2 so thats why he got called up. I dont think schilling is even close to ready to start though.

I gotta disagree here. He doesnt have great range but he makes up for that with going all out in every play, somehting most guys even WITH range dont do. He didnt make a good play last night sure, but he isnt bad. He isnt good either obviously, but just average in my opinion.

Plus u gotta love the hat...

Re: Official Boston Red Sox 2005 Thread

My problem with Trot this year, and maybe it's because of his injury, is he doesn't know his limitations. Using that play last night as an example: The OF was already playing back so a ball didn't get over their head. If it was Damon, he probably would have caught it because he has great range. If it was Manny, he would've known that he had no chance at it and turned around to play it off the wall. Trot is more in the Manny category where he needs to understand his limitations and stop trying to get to balls he can't.
