I guess I can't say that Melky is the worst fielder I've ever seen anymore.

Re: The 2006 New York Yankees

Great win!!

Good job by Wang, coming off some bad starts, and a lot of problems against Boston. Bernie had a homerun, and we took advantage of Boston's mistakes to get the 2nd run.

Great play by Melky to save the game.

A sweep would be really nice, but hopefully we can get at least one of these last 2 and get out of here in first place.

Sheffield is going to have surgery on his wrist, and it looks like he won't be returning until September at the earliest. And seeing how it's a wrist injury, I don't think the Yankees can count on much from him even if he does return this season.

The Yankees will need to look for another bat to stick in the outfield. Damon has all of a sudden become the big hitter in their outfield and that's not a good thing. Guys like Cabrera and Phillips have filled in nicely so far, but they can't count on significant contributions from those guys all season. And Bernie's days as a starter are now long gone.

I'm actually not to worried having Melky and Bernie in the outfield.

Re: The 2006 New York Yankees

You will be. Melky has decent plate discipline but no pop and despite that play against Manny he is not a plus defender. He'd be fine as a fourth outfielder, especially on an NL team, but he isn't a starter in this league. Neither is Bernie and his sub .700 OPS and atrocious defense.
