Out of curiosity, why would Joe Torre use Rivera in a 5-0 game the day after he pitched 2 innings? I've never understood the way Torre uses his bullpen.

Re: The 2006 New York Yankees

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Torre is a great manager but he doesn't know how to best use a bullpen. He almost manages his bullpen the way you would in a videogame where it doesn't matter how many innings the relievers end up with at the end of a season. He always goes with his best to finish off games. It probably helps the Yanks win a few more games over the course of the regular season but we've seen the results the last few years in September and October.

Torre's problem with the pen is he doesn't trust anybody but Mo. He trusts Farnsworth and Proctor somewhat mainly because you have to when your pitchers are only going 6 innings. But then you look at a guy like Villone he's having a pretty good year and almost all of his games are games which the Yanks are losing by a decent amount or winning by a good amount. If he would just use Villone in place of Proctor 1 or 2 times a week Proctor would be more effective and his arm wouldn't be about to fall off.

That's understandable but any bum reliever can protect a 5 run lead for an inning. Using Proctor everyday is one thing, but you'd think he'd learn when they get to October and these guys have nothing left in the tank.

Wow.

Marlins look scared out of their minds playing in front of a big crowd in Yankee Stadium.

3 errors in the first inning, and you could make a case that it could have been 4.

Rain out today. Game is being made up tomorrow but...

Due to the ESPNís Sunday Night Baseball exclusivity, the second game of the doubleheader will not be televised. However, as scheduled, the 1 p.m. game can be seen on both the YES Network and MLB.TV.
That sucks.

The run that scored shouldn't have counted... the ball was clearly foul, and we can thank the almighty instant replay for being able to find that out.
