Well that scouting report certainly gives off a little bit of hope, no?

We could use a 5th starter...

But whatever.
After looking more closely, he's the only real option. Lester would have been going on 3 days rest, Alvarez on 2. Pauley was the only other starter on the 40 man roster.

Chris Pauley has a 2.39 era in 10 starts in Portland, so he may not be a dog.

Mark Loretta is out of Tuesday's starting lineup after being hit in the left foot by a pitch during Monday's game.
Loretta will see a podiatrist during the current road trip. The Red Sox have Alex Cora starting at second base and batting ninth tonight. Coco Crisp is leading off and Kevin Youkilis is in the two hole. May. 30 - 5:14 pm et
Jeez. Good time to have Crisp back. Having the depth of Youkilis doesn't make missing Loretta's bat in the two hole that bad either.

A pic of Theo playing with Pearl Jam as he lost out on Clemens. That bum.

However, as a closer he's only on pace to throw 81 innings, about half of where he should be.

With his age and his arm, I don't think him wearing down is really a concern.

Yes, but we all know one pitch as a closer is not the equivalent of one pitch as a starter. I don't think Papelbon has been over worked at this point, but I do agree Tito has messed up with Riske.

Hopefully Pauley makes the most of his opportunity this week. Surely he can do as well as Clement did last night...

That sucks about Loretta. He's the hottest hitter on the club right now and the Sox need his bat. Hopefully its nothing serious and he is back for the Detroit series.

Is it bad that I sport wood when I get the NESN feed on MLB.tv?

Just as I posted this, the douches at MLB.tv switched to the Blue Jays feed.
