Boy, that escalated quickly. I mean, that really got out of hand fast.

Re: Boston Red Sox - 2006

That one hurt. I honestly thought Timlin would go a second inning with the lead. Tavarez was the last guy I would have brought in in that situation, but after the first two batters (1 on, 1 out), of the guys left, he had decent odds... BUT -- was the sinker even called on Morneau OR Kubel? Was I dreaming or did he not throw it at all? Either that or it flattened out into a plain-old fastball.

That one hurt.

But on the bright side, FANTASTIC games by Schilling, Papelbon, Timlin, Nixon, Gonzalez, and Youkilis. Just glad it's not September yet.

What are the odds Julian is DFA'd in the next week?

Probably slim. But you can always hope.

Next week?

They should send him down right now...call up some pitcher from A-ball and watch him do better.

Well... This team seems to trot out bust after bust bullpen guys for quite an extensive period of time before they realize it's not working.

That was a great game, but with a bad outcome (for the Sox, anyways). I'd have to believe that Tavarez's days are numbered with this club. It will be hard for him to bounce back after that horrid outing.

Re: Boston Red Sox - 2006

Hindsight is 20/20, but did anyone seriously want Tavarez out there over Timlin/Delcarmen?

Nobody mentioned that web gem by Punto, not like it seemed to matter the next half inning. But if two runs score of A-Gon's grounder and its men on the corners with 1 out its a diferent game.

Coco Crisp looked overmatched for the most part, can't really figure out why.

Schilling/Santana was amazing.

And now for the that joke Tavarez. He had good stuff IMO. But I think he got a little too caught up in that tailing 2-seam fastball he got Mauer with. He threw it three times to in one at-bat in the last at-bat. And like someone else said, I didn't see a sinker. Either 'Tek, who gets immunity foir the most thanks to that homer, or Tavarez needs to call a sinink fastball in those scenarios.

I'll be the first one to defend a pitcher and question a catcher's signs, but it was clearly not Tek's doing last night. In fact, that homer off of Schilling was after he shook off a sign from Varitek. Watching last night's game, and possibly to two best catchers in the AL, it was clear to me, while Mauer might have the better bat, I'd still want Tek on my team.
