He's actually been pitching pretty well but has gotten no run support this year.

A RHP + Knuckleball pitcher = Easy to steal on

Wakefield is a perfect example of why you should ignore the W-L record when evaluating a pitcher. He has been well above league average this season.

Next to Schilling, he's the most productive SP the Sox have this season.

Re: Boston Red Sox - 2006

Batters are only hitting .235 off of Wakefield and he has a respectable 1.24 WHIP and 3.97 ERA. He's even been willing to pitch while hurt and can be counted on to go pretty deep into a game. He's not meant to be an ace or anything, even though he's been the second best pitcher on this staff. As long as he remains relatively consistent he'll have a spot in the rotation for the Red Sox.

Yeah...saying we should dump Wake is laughable.

He's been our second best pitcher, and would easily be .500 had he gotten run support.

Actually that rule was changed either this year or last year. It is no longer an out if they catch the ball off of something. I do agree though that the Homer Dome is horendous. Good thing we are out of it in 2010!

That was the best we have played all year. Too bad it wasnt a four game series.

Clement has been put on the DL and Gabe Kapler has been activated. They also have claimed pitcher Kyle Snyder from the Royals and have DFA'd Mike Holtz and Dustan Mohr.

I personally hope Snyder never pitches for Boston and they send him to Pawtucket. If you aren't good enough for the Royals who are you good enough for?!

The Sox take game 1 behind a nice outing by Jon Lester who got his first career win. Varitek had the big hit and its good to see him coming around at the plate. Hopefully Beckett can keep this going tomorrow.
