Re: Boston Red Sox - 2006

Our 3 top arms leading up to Papelbon pitched like crap today and Coco's mishap and overthrow in center certainly didn't help things. This one stings...

What the Hell was that?! They better put this one behind them because thats not how a division leading team should play.

You don't bring your closer into a tie ballgame on the road.

You do if you want to win, and if your whole bullpen is sucking.

Re: Boston Red Sox - 2006

Only Delcarmen had a bad outing (and he's been solid all year). As for Timlin, he would have gotten through the 8th without much trouble had Coco not lost that ball in the sun (or Manny had backed him up successfully). You save your closer for a save situation on the road. Do you want Francona to burn out Papelbon during the regular season like Torre does with his pen?

Papelbon is young and has the stamina of a starting pitcher, he's not old/has been/never will be's like the whole Yankees bullpen excluding Mo Rivera. He can be used more then most closers.

When he's pitching every 5 days he has the stamina of a starting pitcher. But at this point in the season he should be treated like a releiver and not be thrown out there unless we have a lead. Because at this point in the season he doesn't have the same stamina as a starter because he has been pitching a couple times a week for the last couple of months, and I wouldn't want him out there for more then 2 innings at the most.
