Thought I had enough sarcasm in my post but obviously not. I'd prefer to not have Loretta get drilled in the face with a Carmona fastball. Now if he coulda some how got it between the shoulder blades a la Roger Dorn....

Re: Boston Red Sox - 2006

According to the Baltimore Sun the Orioles placed Javy Lopez on waivers (I think they did so on Monday so his time is running out or he is already through today) and the Sox have contacted them about a potential deal.

Me likey.

Now is the time to make a deal. Since the Sox are percentage points behind the Yankees, the Yankees can't block any waiver deals by the Sox. Since Lopez would be owed a fair amount of money, I don't expect the Sox to have to give up much as far as players go.

Maybe Tavarez?

Edit: It'll be interesting to see what the Red Sox do with him/the roster once Varitek is off the DL. Granted they get him and all.

They'd probably keep him on the bench as a backup C and first baseman. Varitek won't be back before the Sept 1st call-up so he'd be with the club all season. He might even get some time in at first if he's any decent over there. If Wakefield never comes back and the Sox make the playoffs I wouldn't be surprised if Mirabelli was left off of the postseason roster.
