The rationale is that the Sox already had a cushion with 4 runs, so you upgrade the defense in the 8th. Youk made the last out in the top of the 8th, so his bat may not even affect the outcome after the blown lead.

3-0 Manny. No way he's throwing a strike.

EDIT: I'll just shut up now.

I understand the rationale completely, I've just never agreed with taking out one of your better bats for a questionable defensive upgrade (it could be argued Snow isn't much of an upgrade over Youk). And I especially do not agree with it before the 9th.

1-2-3 for Ryan, extra innings are coming (assuming Papelbon can get the Sox there).

Hopefully some good comes out of this blown lead and Paps can get the W (fantasy team selfishness)

I'm not sold on Snow either, as Youk has been sensational at everything. But if you don't use him in that spot where Youk should not be expected to hit until tomorrow, Snow doesn't belong on the roster...and that point we may agree on.

Paps really needs to work on a third pitch. Changeup or something. All I've seen him throw are Fastballs and Splitters

Yup. Unless Snow shows me something I don't think he belongs on the roster when Crisp comes back. It was my understanding he was only signed as insurance in case Youk's transition to first did not go well. Youk has been excellent thus far so unless Snow shows he can hit he really has no value to this club. Having Harris and Mohr on the roster (and maybe later on in the season, Stern) makes more sense than having Snow.

I think Papelbon can throw a slider but he doesn't throw it alot. I noticed that some Blue Jays can really foul some balls off though.
