He also has a slider. It's not great at this point and does need some work. He doesn't need a change, having a split as good as the one he has makes up for the lack of a true change. Schilling and Clemens have done just fine without a consistent change-up (I say consistent because Schilling will throw a handful of change-ups during the course of the season, but not often).

How was Beckett? What exactly happened in the 8th?

He hit a batter to start the 8th, then gave up a homer to Adams. He was able to come back and strike out Catalanatto, and then served up a meatball to Wells which made it a one-run game. I don't want to make excuses for Beckett, but one may say the warning issued after he hit the lead-off man (an unwarranted warning) threw him off and he never rebounded.

Beckett hit a batter then just fell apart giving up 2 homeruns.

Anyone notice how much BJ Ryan sweats.

And bad call by the umpire. That was an obvious ball below the knees and Lowell should have walked but instead grounds out.

The ump has also missed some strike calls, so it's hard to be too upset. He hasn't been consistent though, which is frustrating for everyone.
