Re: 2006 Atlanta Braves Discussion

Whew! I'll take losing a game over a player any day. I'm just glad McCann seems to be alright. Too bad we lost the game, but oh well. Good night for Braves fans IMO.

Brian McCann's magical season took a bad turn Saturday night when the Braves catcher and National League batting leader hurt his left ankle in a collision at home plate in a game against Arizona.

The diagnosis was a lateral sprain, indicating the injury wasn't as severe as it initially appeared.

"I heard a pop and my leg went numb," said McCann, who was hurt in a fourth-inning collision at home plate with Eric Byrnes and had to be helped off the field by trainers. "I thought it was my knee. I thought I was done."

Manager Bobby Cox said, "I thought he broke something."

Head trainer Jeff Porter said, "We were very lucky. It looked bad."

X-rays were negative, and McCann and the Braves hope he'll avoid a stint on the 15-day disabled list, although they won't know more until they see whether the ankle swelled overnight.

McCann is batting .350 with five home runs and 21 RBIs, including .419 with 15 RBIs in his past 24 games before Saturday.

The Braves will start backup catcher Todd Pratt in Sunday's series finale, with reserve outfielder Matt Diaz available as an emergency catcher.

Re: 2006 Atlanta Braves Discussion

There's actually a very simple solution to our bullpen woes - clone John Smoltz.

as good as Smoltz is starting, I'd still rather have him everyday in the pen rather than pitching every 5 days.

Re: 2006 Atlanta Braves Discussion

We could really use him in the bullpen, but we need him in the rotation, too. And you know how much he loves to start...

Juan Cruz has been filthy today. Scoreless in the 6th...

EDIT: Not anymore. RBI double Renteria, 1-0 Braves.

2-0 now...
