Re: 2006 Atlanta Braves Discussion

It's funny to hear Jon Miller talk about the proper pronunciation of a name.

Re: 2006 Atlanta Braves Discussion

He said he talked to Betemit before the game and he told him that the correct pronunciation is however Miller has been pronouncing it. Bay-ta-meat, or whatever. Seems like he says it a little bit different every game, though.

Good start for Wicky.

From the AJC preview for tonight's game:

Just call him Wilson

With ESPN televising Sunday night's game, the debate about how to pronounce Betemit's name continued.

ESPN's Jon Miller is technically correct, although Betemit said he has one pronunciation for baseball in the United States and another for away from the game in his native the Dominican Republic.

"Since I came here, it has always been one way," the Braves infielder said.

"So that is OK. I don't care. It is too late to change. It is my baseball name.'

But Betemit in the Dominican Republic is pronounced "Bay-ta-me" and not "Bet-a-mit."

"The 't' is silent," he said.

Sunday's start at third was Betmit's 17th this season. He has also started 10 games at shortstop and nine at second base

Huge win. Nice debut for Wickman.

Screw it...I'll still call him Bet-A-Mitt.

Re: 2006 Atlanta Braves Discussion

Well, seems like that Betemit-Linebrink rumor is still alive... I'd have done it a couple weeks ago, but with Chipper out and Giles not exactly an iron-man himself, I'm not so sure. Gotta be another reliever - maybe not the caliber of Linebrink - that we could get without giving up Wilson...

Underway in Philly, still no Joneses. Hamels K's the side in the 1st. We need Huddy to show up tonight...

EDIT: Braves go up 1-0 on a LaRoche homer. Now Pratt goes deep, 2-0.

Re: 2006 Atlanta Braves Discussion

Hamels has 12 K's through 5.

Somehow, the Braves still lead 2-1.

EDIT: 3-1 now.

Re: 2006 Atlanta Braves Discussion

That's what you get with two solo shots. Let's stop striking out, c'mon!
