Why would they all of a sudden go out and acquire a big name closer? Not that one was even available.
They would because we blew 24 saves last year and the bullpen was clearly the weakest part of the team. It was the reason that we were knocked out of the playoffs in the first round, again. We may not have always had big time closers but at least we had someone who could go out there and was pretty dependable. You can't say that about last year's team and now this year's.

BS, that's been the knock on that team for the majority of the years from 91 till now. Charlie Leibrandt closing out WS game is all you need to say.

They've maintained this same philosophy during the last 15 years, don't know why you think they would change now.

Be that as it may, BK....

We still need someone more solid to hold down the fort at that spot.

That's been the battle cry of Braves fans for the majority of the past 15 years.

They'll figure it out, they always do.

I'm not saying I thought they would get a closer, I'm saying they should have gotten one. Our saves leader last year had 15 to go along with 9 blown saves. That's terrible.

I know....I hope we do. I have faith, though. Cox and Schuerholz haven't dissapointed me much over the years, so I'm sure we'll sort it out.

The good news for Atlanta was that Jones' injuries — sprained ankle, twisted knee — apparently weren't as serious as everyone in a Braves uniform initially feared, when Jones lay writhing on the field clutching his knee.

"Fortunately, nothing structurally is wrong with the knee, which is good," said Jones, whose knee improved after icing. "So hopefully it's just a bad ankle sprain, and we can get back in there pretty soon."

He'll be re-examined today, but the Braves think Jones could be back in the lineup at some point during a six-game homestand that begins today with the home opener against Philadelphia. Until he's back, Wilson Betemit will fill in.

Re: 2006 Atlanta Braves Discussion

Per Bill Shanks:

Quote:
The Atlanta Braves have placed third baseman Chipper Jones on the 15-day disabled list.

Jones has a lateral right ankle sprain and a sprain of the lateral collateral ligament in his right knee.

The Braves are confident Jones can be ready to go in 10-12 days, but they'll need another player up until then and will make a corresponding roster move before Wednesday's game.

Atlanta will likely recall infielder Tony Pena, Jr. from AAA Richmond.
By the way, here's the lineup tonight:

M. Giles 2b
E. Renteria ss
R. Langerhans lf
A. Jones cf
A. LaRoche 1b
J. Francoeur rf
B. McCann c
W. Betemit 3b
J. Thomson p
