Re: 2006 Atlanta Braves Discussion

Kyle Davies had another good start today, his spring ERA is under 1.00. Braves are supposedly shopping John Thomson to free up a rotation spot for Davies. Seems like they'll make a deal for at least one reliever relatively soon.

Oh, and Frenchy has been on fire since returning from the WBC, hit his 3rd homer in 4 games.

Re: 2006 Atlanta Braves Discussion

Diaz has won the 4th outfield spot. All that's left is back-up 1st basemen. So far it seems like Jordan could get it but Jurries is still in the mix.

BTW Davies has been great. I thnk he should get the spot. We can use Sosa in the pen.

Soon to be closer. I like Reitsma a lot but think he would be better for us as the set-up man like when SMoltz was closing. Plus Devine is just a machine.

Re: 2006 Atlanta Braves Discussion

Here's an article that further confirms the Braves' shopping Thomson for a reliever: Link

Franklyn German (Detroit), Jeremy Affeldt and Jimmy Gobble (Kansas City), and Juan Cruz (Oakland) are mentioned as possibly being available.

Funny, Juan Cruz is a guy I was secretly hoping we'd go after. He's had a good spring, but doesn't seem to be in Oakland's plans. He was great for us a few years ago, electric arm...

I thought they were also shopping Sosa around, not just Thomson.
Also aren't they looking everywhere for a left handed reliever to aquire via trade? Foster's health for this season is unknown right now and Remlinger hasn't been doing that great in spring training. That leaves McBride as the sole lefty in the bullpen. Chuck James is a possibility but I heard the braves want him to get more seasoning in the minors first.

Of those teams i think the Royals are the most likely to take Thomson, they want to get out of the cellar and with Zack Greinke's status still unknown and Joe Mays not having a very good spring Thomson serves a need the Royals have for another decent starter. I'm not sure the Braves could get Affeldt for him though, with Mike MacDougal out for at least a month Affeldt could be called upon to Close. Gobble though, they could probably get.

The Rangers are among several teams that have inquired about Braves starter John Thomson, and Major League officials say they believe he will be traded before [the end of] Spring Training.

The Rangers and the Braves have not exchanged names, but Atlanta is looking for bullpen help. The Braves are expected to go with a starting rotation of Tim Hudson, John Smoltz, Horacio Ramirez, Jorge Sosa and Kyle Davies, leaving Thomson the odd man out.

I'm lovin' that rotation. I guess Thomson doesnt want to be out of the bullpen. We could really use his relief effort.
