Chipper Jones was back in the Atlanta Braves' lineup for Saturday's game against the Detroit Tigers, saying he felt pressured to return from a groin injury.

The Braves had suffered three straight shutout losses for the first time since 1988 entering Saturday's game.

When asked if he is rushing his return, Jones said: "Probably. But I feel a little backed into a corner."

Asked to elaborate, Jones indicated some doubted he was injured enough to miss games.

"Let's just say there are people who don't believe me," Jones said. "Let's just say that and leave it at that."

After Friday night's 5-0 loss to the Tigers, Braves starting pitcher John Smoltz said, "You can't worry about who's in the lineup and who isn't. You can't worry about that stuff anymore."

Added Smoltz: "I certainly appreciate the effort of the guys who are on the field busting it."

When asked about his sore shoulder, Smoltz said: "We all could wish we were feeling better but that's the way it goes."

Horrible safe call by the home plate ump again today. Braves have actually got 2 runs to 2nd though, down 2-0, should be 1-0.

BC its time to tell Andruw to bunt. In the middle of the game, runner on French on 1st, should have bunted.

The ump was bad, but the Braves blew the game, KJ couldn't get the bunt down to put a runner on 3rd with 1 out to tie.

Andruw will be somewhere else by the end of July. Mightest well get something for him now then loose him at the end of the season via FA and get nothing

Re: 2007 Atlanta Braves Discussion

UNC's backup catcher just homered and was drafted by the Braves. Might need to call him up next week to spark the offense. Also, what does it say about UNC's depth when the backup catcher gets drafted in the 17th round.
