Re: 2007 Atlanta Braves Discussion

We come back to tie the game up with a nice piece of hitting from Escobar but again Wickman gives up a HR to Olivo in the bottom of the ninth. Marlins take the game in the 10th. Oh well, six in a row was asking too much I guess. Geez!

He's better at the plate than on the mound.

Fireworks starting early for the Braves and Dodgers.

Also, with tomorrow being the 4th of July here's to one of the most infamous (and longest) games in Braves' history. The legendary Rick Camp homers to tie the game only to blow the lead the next inning in the wee hours of the morning and the Braves shoot fireworks off at 4 AM.

John Smoltz's lingering shoulder soreness could force the Braves pitcher to skip another start or go to the place he clearly wants to avoid — the disabled list.

"Two options, none I prefer, [but] one is the better option," Smoltz said Tuesday, a day after allowing three runs in six innings of an 8-2 series-opening loss to the Dodgers.

The veteran's right shoulder didn't feel any better Tuesday, but he wouldn't know until he threw Wednesday what the plan would be for the immediate future. Asked if there was any way he would make his next scheduled start Saturday in San Diego, he said, "It's possible, but probably not likely."

It's more likely the Braves will push his next start back to the fifth game after the All-Star break, July 17 vs. Cincinnati. That would permit him to fully rest 10 days, then throw a bullpen session or two before he returns.

He was named to the National League All-Star team, but the league will probably end up picking a replacement if he tests the shoulder today and decides, as expected, that he needs rest.

"We're planning by looking at the whole season," Smoltz said. "[Missing] one start doesn't matter."

That trade is one of the few trades that I feel we got screwed making. We had Danys Baez for half a season last year and Willy Aybar is...heck I don't even know what happened to him after he went AWOL. Is he still missing?
