Re: 2007 Atlanta Braves Discussion

More Julio talk:

Quote:
The oldest player in baseball was designated for assignment Thursday by the New York Mets, and the Braves will consider making an offer.

"We had the benefit of having him here, watching him produce, seeing his impact," general manager John Schuerholz said. "You can't forget those things."

If the Braves sign him, it would be to serve as an experienced bench player. They've received little production from their free-agent bench signings of the offseason, Chris Woodward and Craig Wilson. The latter was released in May.
Quote:
The Braves could wait out the 10 days, rather than claim Franco off waivers and assume the remainder of his $1.15 million salary. By waiting, they would have to pay him only a prorated portion of the major league minimum salary.

The risk would be losing Franco to another team on waivers.

"No other team knows Julio like we do, since he came back to major league baseball," Schuerholz said.

That they're being so uncharacteristically public about their interest, I'd actually be surprised if he's not brought back...

Re: 2007 Atlanta Braves Discussion

I didn't get to see today's game but I saw Jeff's hit last night to win the game. I saw the highlights from today's game though and everything looked good. That play by Chipper in I think the 8th inning, was great. Now we just need our 4 and 5 pitchers to come through and we'll be in great shape.

Re: 2007 Atlanta Braves Discussion

Carlyle pitched a great game today, just dominated after giving up that HR in the first. He's really looked good the last two starts, hopefully he keeps it up.

Always good to start the second half with a sweep, now just keep the momentum.

Great game going on today. Johnson just made a hell of a throw to keep it 0-0.
