Re: 2007 Atlanta Braves Discussion

This deal would be great if We can get an extension for Teixiera. If we don't get an extension then this is not good. The biggest reason would be that we give up Salty who appears to be working out as our future 1B now for a player that we might only have a short time in Teixiera. Giving up Andrus & Harrison isn't the glitch here because they haven't proven anything due to their youth.

Now, Texas doesn't have a catching prospect anywhere near the status of Salty. I'm sure they would gladly like to have Salty as their future C. We don't have a spot for Salty at catcher so if we can get Teixiera to a longer contract extension then this deal would fit our needs great. I wonder if the Braves have discussed with Salty his future considerations as far as his position goes? I'm sure he realizes that he's not gonna be Atlanta's future catcher but 1B isn't a problem for him either.

I'd just hate to see us give up a great young looking talent just for short term help at 1B. Teixiera is a really good player but he has been around for a while now so we need to get assured of a longer contract so we can have a very capable 1B over there down the road. Teixiera may just propel us into a strong contender because we sure as heck ain't getting it done right now. Thanks!

I thought JS asked about CJ Wilson or Ron Mahay being included in a deal with Teixeira since we need a lefty in the bullpen. What happened with those guys to make it so we would only get Teixeira in a deal?

Re: 2007 Atlanta Braves Discussion

The latest update on the Rosenthal story says the Rangers actually want more, that they want a better pitching prospect than Harrison...

And O'Brien posted this a little bit ago on his blog:

Quote:
All things status quo, everybody’s just waiting for Texas. I hear their young GM struggles to pull the trigger on any deal, much less one involving their marquee guy.

Listen, guys, JS isn’t going to alter a deal based on a media report of what another team is offering. You really give us (media) more credit than we deserve if you think that’s going to happen.

The Rangers know they’ve got the ONLY guy who fits the Braves’ needs, and they are, frankly, smart to hold out and try to get that last piece from the Angels. Nothing to lose. Braves are NOT going to pull their offer from the team, I’m certain of that. Because, as I said, they’ve got no other team to turn to for the bat they want, the 1B bat. And there are NO big-impact starters available.

Long as they don’t give up Escobar or Reyes, I’d do the deal. But if I’m them, I really try to get one of the relievers, even if it’s Mahay. He’s a huge step up from what they’ve got in the pen now, which is no lefty to speak of (Ledezma doesn’t count).

But they might have something else cooking with another team for a lefty. Just never know. Haven’t heard anything, but they might have something going and have successfully kept it under wraps.

By the way, those who doubt this Teixeira deal is in the works simply because it’s so public — don’t. This has nothing to do with Braves front office, this leak. It’s come from all other teams who were in pursuit of Teixeira, and from the Rangers.

As I’ve said, no other team is as airtight as the Braves. Thankfully. Or no one in the media would ever get anything.

JoJo Reyes needs to go back to the minors. Of course I don't know who you bring in to replace him.

I'm not writing the guy off already (that would be silly), but I've yet to be particularly impressed with Jo Jo...

Schuerholz has to get a starter. If he really wants to make a run at it...

Saw a rumor somewhere else, supposedly reported by Steve Phillips that the Braves were trying to get Millwood back along with Tex.

I doubt it, two expensive Boras clients... but we could sure use him.

What is Texas GM Jon Daniels thinking? If he wants the Braves to include even more talent he is crazy. As it is the Braves would be giving up a little too much in my opinion by trading Salty, Harrision, and Andrus for Teixeira alone and now Daniels wants another player. Umm...How about NO!!!

I know Millwood is playing in a bad park for pitchers but his stats are bad this year. A 5.56 ERA and a WHIP of 1.63. I'm not sure how much of a difference he'd make for Atlanta.
