If we can have a long term contract extension for Tex then this would make things better because we have no player in the minors capable of filling his void if he's not guaranteed to stay past the rest of this year. We need to do what Houston did with Wiggington & sign him to a contract extension. They locked him up for 3 years after he came over in the trade. We need something like that with Tex if the deal is really wrapped up. Thanks!
Ken says we'd be getting Mahay I believe

At this moment in time this is great, But it sucks to give up Salty b/c he quickly became a favorite of mine and just wish we could get rid of McCann

Dunno if Mahay or another pitcher is coming with Tex...hasn't been actual confirmation on the deal anywhere.

Why get rid of McCann?! He is an excellent player.

Yeah! Salty became a favorite for me also. Chipper is my favorite Brave & has been since David Justice left for Cleveland a few years ago. I like McCann too but Salty certainly seems to have a better arm & fielding ability. McCann remember has already established himself last year with his solid play on offense & defense. He's not been as good this year but he still is having a decent year though.

Salty hasn't had enough time yet but from what he's shown then he's gonna be a real fine catcher if he is traded. He has a really good arm & can hit for power & average. Keep in mind that he's still very young also but I definitely see him as a possible All-Star Catcher in the future. I just wish we had a place for him but it doesn't appear that way right now. I mean he was doing a nice job at 1B but that's not his regular position so I can see why we would be more interested in Tex & trading Salty. Sometimes I just don't like getting rid of talent like him though. Thanks!

Its not that I dont like McCann or think we should get rid of him, But I just feel that Salty is gonna be 2 times the player Brian is going to be, But we've allready signed Brian for 5 years at a good price for a Good catcher so It definatly makes sense.

I've never been very sold on Brian, but in reality he is one of the top catchers in the game, Which makes me wonder what Salty will end up being.

For now tho in the Present time this deal is great for the Braves, In the Future I have no idea.

Re: 2007 Atlanta Braves Discussion

I dunno, but I'm thinking Schuerholz must have something else cooking. Something that'll surprise us... hopefully a starter.

As for the Tex deal, you know we gave up a lot. I think Salty's the real deal. Andrus, still very young. Could be "the next Jeter" as was once predicted, but probably more likely the next Wilson Betemit... Feliz, very young, said to have arguably the best stuff of any of our minor leaguers. But you know what they say about pitching prospects... there is no such thing as a pitching prospect.

And Harrison (if he's the other pitcher) seems more like a back-of-the-rotation type to me.

Those are four of our top prospects, it's definitely a gamble. I'd probably feel a teeny bit better about the deal if we had been able to get C.J. Wilson added instead of Mahay, but still, I'm pretty stoked about having Tex in the middle of our line-up for the rest of this year and next.

And he's got Georgia ties (went to Tech, wife's from Atlanta) so we might have a better shot than some expect at re-signing him. And even if we don't, we'll still get some high draft picks for him, as long as we offer arbitration.

Anyway, I think Schuerholz is goin' for it (which is why I'm expecting some more action before 4:00 tomorrow). High risk, potentially very high reward...

I not sure if we didn't give up too much. Salty, Elvis, and Harrison are the top 3 prospects in the organization according to Baseball America. If we don't sign him past 2008 then that is going to be a ton of talent gone off of the farm.
