As for the Tex deal, you know we gave up a lot. I think Salty's the real deal. Andrus, still very young. Could be "the next Jeter" as was once predicted, but probably more likely the next Wilson Betemit... Feliz, very young, said to have arguably the best stuff of any of our minor leaguers. But you know what they say about pitching prospects... there is no such thing as a pitching prospect.

And Harrison (if he's the other pitcher) seems more like a back-of-the-rotation type to me.

Those are four of our top prospects, it's definitely a gamble. I'd probably feel a teeny bit better about the deal if we had been able to get C.J. Wilson added instead of Mahay, but still, I'm pretty stoked about having Tex in the middle of our line-up for the rest of this year and next.

And he's got Georgia ties (went to Tech, wife's from Atlanta) so we might have a better shot than some expect at re-signing him. And even if we don't, we'll still get some high draft picks for him, as long as we offer arbitration.

Anyway, I think Schuerholz is goin' for it (which is why I'm expecting some more action before 4:00 tomorrow). High risk, potentially very high reward...
Who knows? Maybe Teixiera will love his time here and give us a "discount" of sorts. I'm stoked though. Our line-up has no weakness right now from 1-8. I don't think we need another starter, unless you want to get a #5 and send Reyes back down. From 1-4 I think we are fine, as James and Carlyle have done a good job of late. Hudson and Smoltz are who they are, very good pitchers.

Andruw Jones is pretty sad to me, But If he could get some more hits when games mattered then I would agree that 1-8 we are as good as they come.

Ideally I'd like to pick up a #3 and slide James and Carlyle down a slot, but really I'd settle for a guy that we can rely on to just give us some serviceable innings... I don't trust Reyes in the big leagues yet.

And as good as Carlyle's been, I do worry whether he can sustain it.

The Braves could be on the verge of not only acquiring the best hitter on the trade market, but one of the best relievers as well.

In addition to reaching a preliminary agreement for Rangers first baseman Mark Teixeira, the Braves are close to a deal for Royals closer Octavio Dotel, according to major-league sources.

The Braves, Indians and Dodgers are the three finalists for Dotel, sources say. Royals general manager Dayton Moore, previously an executive with Atlanta, is intimately acquainted with the Braves' farm system.

The addition of Dotel would give the Braves a trio of formidable right-handers in the late innings -- Dotel, Rafael Soriano and Bob Wickman.

So what position in the batting order will Tex be in? I'm thinking he gonna be 4th between Chipper and Druw.

I can't remember the last time JS has made a trade this big that makes us alot better at the trade deadline. With the reports of a potential Dotel deal and hopefully even a starter it seems to me that Schuerholz realizes that both he and Bobby could be in the twilight of their careers and he wants to make a run at one last World Series Championship.

Finally! JS makes a big time deal that helps us in this years race.

probably 5th, guy from the AJC made a joke after putting him in the 4th spot, saying he forgot who was making the lineups
