Re: 2007 Atlanta Braves Discussion

I just realized tonight's game is televised locally for me (I live near Houston), though for some reason it's the SportSouth feed rather than a Houston one. Not that I'm complaining...

Re: 2007 Atlanta Braves Discussion

Rafael Soriano just pitched the 5th, for anyone curious about his arm:

vs. Brad Ausmus
FB 93
FB 94
FB 94
SL 85 (strikeout swinging)

vs. Mark Loretta
FB 94
FB 95
FB 95 (strikeout looking)

vs. Craig Biggio
SL 86
SL 83
FB 95
SL 85
FB 95 (line-out to LF)

Ooh, Andruw just got plunked in the hand. He stays in, though.

And promptly steals 2nd.

Re: 2007 Atlanta Braves Discussion

Paronto just took a liner off his foot, ball ricocheted towards 3rd. Chipper made the charging bare-handed play and threw the runner out.

Paronto didn't stay in, though. Probably just precautionary...

Edit: And Chipper singles in the go-ahead run in the 7th off Lidge.

Re-Edit: Manny Acosta getting knocked around in the ninth. 5 runs allowed and still nobody out...

Astros scored 9 in the 9th, Braves lose 11-3.

At least I got a good wallpaper from the game tonight even though the Braves lost:

Javy Return?

Quote:
Javy Lopez's agent, Chuck Berry, called the Braves on Tuesday to see if they'd be interested in reacquiring his client, who was released by the Rockies on Monday.

"Atlanta would be a great fit," said Berry while nearly echoing the words of Lopez, who on Monday indicated that he'd only serve as a backup catcher if he was in Atlanta.

While one Braves official provided indication they haven't shut the door on thoughts of obtaining Lopez, the general consensus is that the club will likely still use Brayan Pena as their backup catcher. Pena is a talented switch-hitter, who would definitely be a better defensive player than Lopez.

Since hitting 43 homers for the Braves in 2003, Lopez's offensive numbers have been in steady decline. Before being released by both the Orioles and Red Sox last year, the 36 year-old catcher hit .251 with eight homers in 342 at-bats.

I don't see much point to it, besides possibly nostalgia...

I don't see this happening. The Braves have a talented switch hitting backup catcher in Brayan Pena and all indications are pointing to him being Atlanta's backup.

Yeah, I doubt John S. makes this move, especially considering that they have Brayan Pena.

Re: 2007 Atlanta Braves Discussion

5 shutout innings tonight for Lance Cormier, lowered his spring ERA to 1.29... seems to have the inside track on the 5th starter spot. Chipper also hit his first spring homer.
