Re: 2007 Atlanta Braves Discussion

Quote:
"I just want to try something else," said Braves manager Bobby Cox, while seemingly attempting to avoid saying anything negative about Wickman, who posted a 3.92 ERA in 49 appearances and blew six of his 26 save opportunities this year.

While Cox was diplomatic, Andruw Jones provided an indication that Wickman sometimes complained about pitching in non-save situations, like the one he entered in Thursday night's extra-inning loss to the Reds.

By the time the 12th inning arrived Thursday, the only remaining available relievers were Wickman and Oscar Villarreal, who would have pitched every inning that followed the 12th.

"We need guys who want to pitch," Jones said. "If you don't want to pitch you shouldn't be here."

That surprises me... Wickman's always been portrayed as the ultimate team player. I remember reading stories in the spring about the Wickman/Soriano/Gonzo trio, with quotes from Wickman saying he'd pitch wherever they needed him.

Re: 2007 Atlanta Braves Discussion

It is somewhat surprising to me but we are getting desperate now. Wick has blown too many games & his age is definitely a factor for him now. I'm sure we will find some team interested in him within 10 days. Who have we called up now? Haven't checked! Who is going to be designated our closer now? Or, is this now a close by committee situation. I'm more worried about our SP though than our bullpen really. Our bullpen just needs some rest but we can't give it to them due to these sorry 3rd-5th spots in the rotation. We are in need of a sweep badly but we are playing a team that's coming on & closing in on the NL Central fast. Thanks guys!

The Wickman release surprised me when I read about it. I don't follow the Braves that closely but I had no idea he was in danger. Surprising to me.

The Braves made another roster move, Martin Prado got sent back down... he was just recalled with Renteria back on the DL.

Ascanio and Devine are the two additions.

Good, we are going to need some extra arms in the bullpen with our abysimal 3-5 spots in the rotation.

Re: 2007 Atlanta Braves Discussion

Smoltz comes through again for us! We need these next two from the Cards in a bad way! Thanks!

Shoot, we aren't supposed to lose games when Huddy pitches.

Cards got all their runs in the 5th, 5-4 the final.

Braves had a chance with Andruw up in the 9th, but you know how that goes.

Reyes vs Wainwright tomorrow... not a good match-up for us.

Re: 2007 Atlanta Braves Discussion

I've got to quit watching this for a couple games! It's just sooooooo disappointing to watch!
