I don't care if Willie stays on the team, but he doesn't need to be platooning with anyone. He needs to be a bench player.

I do agree & said that Harris should be a fill-in type player. He should be there just for giving regular players rest & filling in for injured guys. You're right a bench player. I just don't see how some could say that Harris shouldn't be on the team. Sure, we could possibly find someone else that could fit the role but he's still a good back-up player to have on your team. Thanks!

It would be great to have Glavine back to finish his career where it started. Thanks!

Re: 2007 Atlanta Braves Discussion

Team owner Liberty Media revealed in a financial report filed this week that the Braves had robust revenue and cash flow last season. And team CEO Terry McGuirk said the Braves were profitable and will spend "many millions more" on next year's player payroll.

Sounds good... whether it's actually put to use or not, though, remains to be seen.

EDIT: And an update on the Glavine front...

Quote:
Tom Glavine's return to the Braves is getting closer.

Glavine's agent, Gregg Clifton, met Wednesday with Braves general manager Frank Wren over lunch in Phoenix, and Wren reiterated his desire for Glavine to rejoin the team.

Negotiations could proceed quickly if the Braves make Glavine a competitive offer. Glavine, after earning a total of $10.5 million from the Mets last season, is willing to accept a discount to return home to Atlanta, but not a steep discount.

"They feel he can play a key role and put them in position to contend for another world championship," Clifton told FOXSports.com. "They know how much he wants to do that.

"(Wren) mentioned how much (manager) Bobby Cox wants him back. They're really close. Obviously, that's important. The (John) Smoltz factor also is important. That's his best friend."

Re: 2007 Atlanta Braves Discussion

Quote:
Wren said Thursday afternoon that there are "a couple" of current trade possibilities that would allow him to bring a new center fielder to the Braves organization. It appears at least two of his options involve younger players who wouldn't provide much of an impact on the team's payroll.

"In the trade possibilities that we have right now, one guy, I don't know if I'd classify him as a veteran, but he's been around for a few years at the Major League level," Wren said. "Another one is young player, who doesn't have a lot of Major League time, but has some Major League time."

This description seemingly eliminates the likes of Boston's Coco Crisp and Cincinnati's Ken Griffey, Jr., who despite rumors has never been on the Braves radar. Instead it hints toward players like Milwaukee's Gabe Gross or Kansas City's David DeJesus. While neither are going to change the balance of power in the National League East, both could be the short-term fixes needed until Schafer is deemed ready.

I figured aukevin would like the Gabe Gross suggestion.
