I figured aukevin would like the Gabe Gross suggestion.
I definitely would go after DeJesus. Gross isn't a bad choice either but I still like DeJesus better. I just want to get Glavine signed first. He can give us that extra we need for SP that was lacking this past season. Thanks!

Braves have acquired OF Josh Anderson from Houston for Oscar Villarreal...

Also:

Quote:
The Atlanta Braves offered Tom Glavine a contract Friday, the first attempt to reunite the free agent left-hander with the franchise he broke into the majors with 20 years ago.

Glavine's agent, Gregg Clifton, said Friday that Glavine would take less money to join the Braves. Clifton did not reveal terms of the contract. It is believed to be a one-year deal.

"Now, our intention is to prepare a counter-offer that we will give them by tonight," Clifton said.

I don't think Anderson is the answer in CF but he's certainly a capable backup type player. He does have a good upside but I don't think this was the big move for a CF. I think letting Villarreal go isn't a big deal but he was certainly durable & flexible for the pitching staff. I wonder what the Braves offered Glavine? It had to be at or below probably $10million for one year. I think it will take $12-13 million for that one year to get him. I bet that's what the counter offer will be around. I just hipe we can sign him & not let the Mets or anybody else get him. Thanks!

More on the Glavine offer from the AJC's Dave O'Brien:

Quote:
Braves offered about $7 mill, and Glavine made a counterproposal tonight. Not sure what that was, but I think it’s pretty close. This could get done soon, no later than next week but as early as the weekend.

I think it’ll end up being about $8 mill in a straight one-year offer, don’t think an option will be included.

I don't like bringing in Glavine to be honest.

Why? I mean this guy is a Brave IMO. We need SP badly & he's a veteran player plus has a lot of friends on this team. I don't see why you'd not want him. Something against him leaving before? He's not the Glavine of old times but still can pitch. I'm surprised that only $7 million has been offered. He can make more elsewhere but has already said he wants to be close to his family which lives in Atlanta. I honestly didn't expect to sign him under $10 million for one year which is what he would want in terms of length & amount of a contract. I don't care really but I hope this gets done soon. Thanks guys!

Re: 2007 Atlanta Braves Discussion

Really like how the Braves are stockpiling outfield prospects with the need they have in left and center. In their system right now, they have all kinds of speed with Anderson and Hernandez, Jones and Schaffer who look to be solid (and maybe better than that) all around ballplayers, and Heyward who has some unearthly power potential. Then maybe add Lillibridge to the mix if they look at him in center ... that's a GREAT group of talent auditioning for 2 positions. And all after they "depleted" the system to get Texiera. Impressive ...

We do have a lot of potential players in the OF right now. Anderson being the latest addition. I think Schaffer has the most upside of all the guys mentioned. Brandon Jones is a corner OF player so he can't even be included for a CF prospect. I don't think the system was depleted with the Tex trade.

I didn't like giving up Andrus but we had to part with some good prospects to get Tex. Beau Jones & Matt Harrison are 2 solid pitching prospects but not proven in any way. We'll be able to better evaluate this trade down the road. If we have Tex one more year then let him go & the guys traded turn out to be stars then that may have been somewhat of a bad deal but we needed Tex to make that playoff push this past season. Thanks!
