Re: 2017 Chicago Cubs

I'm so happy with what's happened to Javy Baez's career over the past 18 months. Couple years ago he was an "overhyped prospect" exposed with a 40% K-rate and almost everybody had written him off. Now he's one of the most exciting players in the game who can do a little of whatever it is you need done.

Hope this championship game beatdown doesn't get Javy down too much. He's had a great WBC and looks ready for the season.

I'm a little concerned about the pitching staff...

...but the Cubs might score so many runs it doesn't matter.

Bryant: 40hrs
Rizzo: 30
Schwarber: 25+
Russell: 22+
Baez: 20ish
Zobrist: 15
Contreras: 15+

Yeah, I don't know that the staff can stay as healthy as it did last year. If one of Lester/Arrieta/Hendricks goes down, the depth of the starters gets bad fast. But you're right, the offense might make it not matter in the regular season. The playoffs would be a different story.

I am assuming that Baez/Happ/Jimenez/Candelario among others will be made available for pitching before the regular trade deadline.

The bullpen seems relatively deep...

Re: 2017 Chicago Cubs

I feel like Theo will make a big splash for a starter at some point. We need to replace Lackey next year and also maybe Jake Arrieta depending on how that goes.

I can't imagine Baez would be moved at this point, but I do agree on the rest. Apparently Szczur is being shopped as he's out of options. Maybe he can bring a piece that can be flipped in a package for a young starter.

Re: 2017 Chicago Cubs

i hate the idea of giving up on Szczur...seems like the kind of player that rounds out a team nicely.

That being said, I should be happy that the Cubs are so well-manned that they can afford to trade him.
