Workaround to load rosters without historical stats glitch

I tried the workaround dave-sz posted but it didn't work. To be more specific, stats were correct, but it seems to be because the game loads default rosters after canceling the update. So even though it shows correct stats, created minor leaguers are gone.

Has anyone been able to get it to work with Knight's rosters? Maybe I am just doing something wrong, but I went step by step.
