It's not stupid, it's just how an organization chooses to present itself. Remember it's a business before anything else. George Steinbrenner wanted his guys clean-cut to exude an image of confidence.

I actually think it would be "stupid" not to sign an one-year, $12M contract because you don't want to shave your facial hair.
