    Classic Teams

My motivating factor for taking on this roster project was simply that I was spoiled from my PC baseball playing days with MVP 2005 Baseball. The tremendous modders of this title created a classic teams mod and I wanted to bring this option to MLB 13. I am nostalgic when it comes to baseball and I started to look around in the vault to see if this was viable. I found a great base roster by homerun234 and then began downloading other rosters to round out some of the teams. I have only been making a few fistfuls of players as the credit for this project largely goes to the following roster makers: Jros22, pjsnell10, yanks61, whoisJSR, dansp888, JohnEKool, dallmanator1, biebig2010, captainphido, HIGH_ON_FIRE_420, stroehms, TwinsVikes61, drsublime, WWE_FAN_620, and spaceace08.

My CAPs are largely bench players and stances and deliveries may be off somewhat. I am not a great face maker, but I just tried to provide distinguishing features that would be recognizable. I didn’t use a ratings calculator for my CAPs. I just used Baseball Reference and Baseball Almanac websites to find players with comparable values and added my own insights. The ratings are not year specific either, especially for HOF players. For example, Carl Yastrzemski is rated at 99 but in 1978 that wouldn’t be accurate. Personally, I can live with that but they are certainly open for editing. Again, most of the players are not mine anyway. I’ve certainly gained a great deal of appreciation to those people that create players, develop ratings, and form rosters. Just the importing and exporting that I am doing alone is quite time consuming, but I am looking forward to giving something back as I’ve been the benefactor of some fine work from this community.

There are duplicate players as my intent is to use these mainly in postseason mode. I hope to have this completed by early to mid August depending on family commitments as I am a school teacher by trade and I’m off for the summer. Below is a list of the American League teams that I am creating. This is subject to change depending on player availability. I’ll post the National League teams here once I finish the entire American League. The AL East is done. Feedback is welcome and I hope you enjoy this effort once it is completed.

    * August 21st Update - The project is finished! Teams listed below have been set and the name of the roster is:

Good luck on these, we tried doing this a couple of years ago, and lost steam when we were almost done.

Looking forward to these. It is a huge undertaking. Hope you can get it done, but I know what it is like...eventually fatigue and monotony set in. Hope you stay the course...thanks for even attempting this!!

The 1980 Kansas City Royals and 1977 Royals were both better than the 1985 Royals.

I have vowed to finish these so no worries there, capa. pjsnell10, I kept MLB 12 all due to your terrific all time team efforts as I'm currently playing a season with the all time Red Sox with that title. I am playing every game. Thanks for the suggestions, JH8230 and KC, but again, it is all dependent on player availability with what's already out there.

              Re: Classic Teams

              I LOVE THIS!

My question would be; why no love for the INCREDIBLE teams of early baseball? (which is usually the case)

The 1927 Yankees not appearing? There are many who would unquestionably refer to them as the best ever. Personally, I think 3 teams, the '27 NYY, '53 Brk and '75 Cin are the best team ever.

Did you know that the 27 MURDERER'S ROW team was put out by an incredibly good Phi. Athletics team for THREE STRAIGHT YEARS...1929-1931. They had 6 hall of famers on the team, I believe the 89 team had one.

I love what you are doing, but to go to the effort to put something like this together, then leave out teams like

              1924 Was
              1927 NYY
              1929 A's
              1934 StL
              1946 Bos
              1953 Brk
              1954 Cle
(some other powerhouses, too, but you get the point)

just makes it an odd choice. Honestly, if you are going to make them, how could you have two boston teams with Manny and Big Papi and all, and not a single team with Williams, Doerr and 'the other' DiMaggio?

Go all out man...go for it!

Plus, I absolutely agree about the '77 Royals, and they were the West Champs that year!

                  Re: Classic Teams

Billy, I totally agree about those terrific teams you listed but I'm not getting into a lot of CAP work as it is too time consuming. If I put out a second version it is certainly a possibility. I am a huge Sox fan, as you can see, so I want to be able to use both World Series winning teams, hence the reason for the 2004 and 2007 editions. I am using Dimaggio, Williams and Doerr in my all time season so I have no desire to create the 1946 team right now for this title. The common denominator for this roster set is player availability in the vault. I just finished the '85 Royals. They were WS champs so that is my reasoning there

If you've got '11 still, there is a roster around that has about 85 classic teams that are completely finished, including correct stances, delivery, equipment and attributes for each player. Sounds like many of the teams you're doing are on there.

Wow! So you are still using The Show 12?

Every year there are certain nuasances that get put in which make it impossible for me to go back and play the previous year's game. This year it is the defensive positioning, and the physics seem tweaked in that there seem to be more variety in ball-of-bat, like bloops and Texas-leaguers.

I wish they would just update the previous years game, so we could keep rosters and seasons going we have invested so much in to.
