    2014 OSFM HYBRID INITIAL SETUP

Hey everyone, yup it's that time of year to start thinking about roster creation and how we are going to go about this roster moving forward. I will be doing the initial setup on the PS3 so there is compatibility - at least that is the plan as of right now.

Teeds has once again agreed to assist in making this thing work - but once again this year we will need assistance from many of you.

    I am looking for the following;

1 . Someone who can help transfer the ZiPs stats into ratings similar to last year - someone with proficiency on Excel - last year Ohdannyboy and tbbucsfan01 did this - if you guys can help out again this year that would be great.

    2. A few dedicated people who can help input the ratings into the game

    3. Someone who can help with pitch edits

    4. Someone to help with the transfer and any changes that need to be made to Ps4 version once it is released. I have both systems but will dedicate my time initially to Ps3

This year because of the late release, we are going to be up against it to get this out by June - I would like earlier if possible. Of course everything will depend on the timing of the OSFM Roster being released - I will be working on that myself until then.

I am really looking forward to working with this great community again this year in producing what I feel is one of the most accurate rosters out there.

One suggestion I do have and I have already been looking over ZiPs numbers - we can look at transferring the end of season ratings into this years version and then make needed adjustments - what are people's thoughts on that?

        Wow I just realized that.

Here's another one that shows Steamer was better for batters and pitchers (at another url from the same website). And yeah they're not that much different but Steamer was at least a little better.

Your Roster set is the best. I want to help. I own a Vita and a Ps-4. I will be getting the Vita version on April 1st and the Ps-4 version on May 6th. For pitch edits, I would use Sean Jezzy's edits.

          Please PM me.

          Thanks.

I look forward to this set and having all of the players uniformly rated on the same scale. OSFM is a masterpiece but having helped rate the Mets players last year I saw firsthand how some people use different scales to rate their teams players and it really throws things for a loop.

I assume you guys have seen this awesome tool someone is making in this thread to get sim stats from the player ratings: http://www.operationsports.com/forum...-attached.html Will you be using this at all? It seems like a perfect fit for the job you do.

I hope to use your final set and make an opening day franchise file with it that has all accurate opening day injuries/lineups/send downs/draft picks/and maybe all cyberfaces if that trick is still in. I think franchise files are the way to go you can really customize things better than just a standard roster file and while every year I appreciate the work other people do it never has everything in it that i wish it to have. I am going to try putting one together this year but I am slow at that kind of thing so I hope others have similar plans as well and upload them for us to all check out.

He's kinda said that a global rerate with the spreadsheet will lead to some weird stats (too few hits, I think). If everything gets worked out then I don't know why it would be bad. Just take out the formulas and paste them into the projections spreadsheet. The projections do not include bunt hits and RISP so drag bunt will be on some scale again and clutch will be all RC/PA or wOBA which I used last year.

Now that I think about it I think I rated each player on RC/600PA against the average and rated each player on wOBA against the average then just averaged the ratings i.e. Matt Holliday had 78 RC/600PA so that was a 80 rating and a wOBA of .350 which was an 84 so his "clutch" was 82. These are all made up numbers just for illustration.

I used OPS+ and RC/650PA so this is manageable without BA/RISP (which is a bogus stat anyway and clutch shouldn't be a stat in the game or at least have a huge 0-100 scale but that is for another day).

I think he said that about people trying to make historic rosters with it. This tool might not be great to come up with the ratings but it can be helpful to see what the sim stats will look like without spending 20 minutes simming a full season in game and letting you make global edits to correct issues faster.

I have spent the last few days checking out lots of players Fangraphs projections and it just struck me as Steamer being very pessimistic especially in regards to pitchers, while ZiPs had a more realistic look at things. But this is only my interpretation of course!

EDIT: According to this Streamer was pretty accurate with pitcher projections as well. http://www.mrcheatsheet.com/2014/02/...ojections.html I guess it's my predictions that are off! Very interesting stuff.

I think all of this is something to look into. When it comes to what stats to convert from I trust what tbbucsfan comes up with. He was our expert last year and that roster was very good in my opinion - I think when it comes to projections any one player can make you look bad but the goal is consistency and as much accuracy as possible. Right now I am working on the OSFM and as it draws closer to completion then will sink my time into this. I would ideally like to have V1 ready for the Ps4 release.

Among the different projections I've always preferred Steamer over ZiPS. Those are really the only two I pay close attention to though and I feel when comparing projections I've heard it more than a few times that Steamer has been the most accurate among them.

He also said that the league averages can drift depending on context and talent level so I'm assuming the hitters simmed stats will be right, only if we leave the pitching stats the same.

We need that guy in this thread because it is his tool and he knows the ins and outs.

Yeah and they updated their regression levels. They do it to a positional average and I think they just reran the tests and have new averages.

I don't have a ton of time, but I'm willing to help. I'm very good with Excel and formulas. Already have the game as well.
