Quick Count Sliders

Is there a little group that would be interested in putting some time together in getting a good QC slider set together?

When I first started using I felt it would be something that I would only use slightly or get tired of, however I really like what I've been getting from it and would like to take a shot at fine tuning them.

Could just use a few partners to help test and make different observations than my own.

Re: Quick Count Sliders

Here are my initial sliders to begin testing, gonna roll with HOF hitting for sure as I love the way the AI pitches on this level. Gonna start with HOF pitching and see how that goes but may drop down to all-star if it proves to difficult or unrealistic.

Using classic pitching as I feel it produces the most realistic amount of walks along with quick count, and using zone hitting without moving the PCI which means waiting for your pitch and using contact swing with 2 strikes is critical.

Let me explain my approach to using the different swings to accompany not moving the PCI to aid your hitting. For the most part normal swing is used, the only time power swing is used is when you are ahead by at least two pitches (I.e. 2-0, 3-1,) I never swing at a 3-0 pitch as I force them to at least throw me a strike. Contact swing is used with two strikes depending on the hitter (see example below), however I stop using it if the count works back full. This helps keep user strikeouts realistic and makes sure that the guys on your team that strikeout more in real life wind up striking out more in your game.

Here's an example of who gets to use contact swing and who wouldn't. You really would just use your head on who you think should and shouldn't this just gives you an idea of how I would do it. I'll use the Braves as an example as I'm going to use them in franchise while tweaking these. Make sure after you decide who gets to use it and who doesn't that you stick with it to get the best results.

BJ Upton: haha yeah right
Justin Upton: contact swing
Freddie Freeman: definitely
Evan Gattis: close but no
Andrelton Simmons: yep
Chris Johnson: yep
Jason Heyward: borderline but I'd give it to him
Dan Uggla: no comment lol
Ryan Doumit: nope
Gerald Laird: nope
Ramiro Pena: yes
Jordan Schafer: yes
Tyler Pastornicky: normally he's the type of player that would get this but from what I've seen I probably wouldn't let him use it.

Now for the initial sliders:

These are just my initial start out settings and will definitely change some what, however I don't think it'll take much to get things right with QC.

So please play some games and post some boxscores/impressions, keep in mind that while I'll definitely be listening to all observations I will most likely not seriously consider changing something you've suggested until after your 10 game mark. But please don't let that stop you from saying something about it after your first or every game just saying don't get upset when I wait until you've put together at least 10 games before applying a change (unless I and others are seeing the same thing).

Re: Quick Count Sliders

Lol just thought I'd give a quick update on how the top of the first went on opening day.

Heyward and BJ Upton struck out to start it then Freeman ripped a low liner just over the 2b head for a double then Chris Johnson hit a contact swing double of the wall over Gomez's head in center for a RBI double then Justin Upton ripped a RBI double on the ground down the line past the 3b for another RBI double. Then Uggla hit a simple grounder to Segura at short who threw it into the stands to score Upton. So we're up 3-0 headed into the bottom of the first. Just thought it was a interesting inning, also nice to see side runs off more than hrs.

Observations from this series. User control must be adjusted, I love getting some wildness as it mimics real life however all pitchers are consistently missing their spots by a lot. Missing by a lot occasionally or by a bit fairly often is wanted but having all of your pitchers miss by miles all game is unrealistic.

Also the CPU is putting the bat on to many pitches and also pitches they really shouldn't be "touching" too consistently. Not really impacting strikeouts to much as you can still get those, but is keeping them alive to much and allowing to many hits.

So even though want to wait these two changes must happen going into the next series as they were very very glaring in this series.

Human Pitcher Control +1

CPU Contact -1

Man it's crazy how two simple changes like that can completely make a game so much better. Obviously not perfect or anywhere near finished with updates but those two small changes make it where I can get a good sample size in to really tell what needs to be adjusted.

My pitchers where just slightly more under control and while they still missed spots they didn't miss them as often or miss by a lot any where near as much. almost the perfect mix of in control and out of control.

I'm liking the change to CPU contact, while it may appear that it led to me striking out them more that was actually attributed more to them starting to chase out of the zone more a little later in the game.

Had what I think is the most rewarding feeling in this game with the BJ HR, actually getting around on a 3-1 fastball with a power swing and sending it over the fence just feels amazing.

Gio was a beast in this one early, he was K'ing me up like crazy (which is fine because he can get on a roll and do that to teams) but forcing high counts and drawing a few walks along with those K's got his pitch count up early and when he fell behind BJ finally with 120+ pitches, ... well I described how that went already lol.

Kimbrel really felt like Kimbrel in this game, which has been hard to accomplish in past iterations. After getting a groundout to first to start the 9th he just blew 99mph fastballs right by Span and Werth to shut out the game.

So all in all I'm finally ready to get some games in to see what needs tweaking, there are some things I'm keeping my eye on already (I'm sure long time Show heads like me can already see them as well) however it'll be a good 16 more games before I think to actually touch the sliders again. I'll be giving player and team stat updates after every 10 games (or end of series if the 10th game comes in the middle of a series) as well as where those team stats rank in the league.
